Democratic politicians are generally sold-out corporate stooges who will do very little to help the working class in America. Republican politicians are the exact same thing, but with additional baggage. Take your pick of at least one of the following: bigotry, religious nuttiness, loves violence and war, hates the poor, etc.
I have yet to see anyone present a single convincing argument to vote Republican. The last 2 Republican presidents - that idiot Dubya and that criminal idiot Trump - have been utterly useless, and red states almost always lag behind blue states in all areas that matter: life expectancy, literacy, GDP, health, etc.
So, while neither political party is worth much these days, the Republican party is clearly the inferior choice in nearly all cases. Now, you SHOULD always try to vote for the person and not the party... although that makes the votes for Trump even more disgusting since he's a horrible human being and far worse than the very low standards normally set by the Republican party.
Pretty much a vote for either party is a vote against the middle class.
Agreed, which is why people should vote for the PERSON, not the party. Democrat, Republican - hell, even third party to make a statement.
Although, again, that casts an even greater shadow on those who voted for Trump since he is far below the pathetic standards normally set by the Republicans (not that the Democrats are much better.) Yes, yes - some people fell for what he said, but they should have known better. After all, the man is a professional con artist, and that was a known fact long before we reached the general election.
The election I was referring to is run-off special election for a Congressional seat in Georgia.
Agree that neither party represents the middle class and both are controlled by money.
The key difference - if you're on welfare, you vote Democrat. If you work for a living, you vote Republican.
Some posts say the Dems support old white men, you say the Dems support welfare recipients, etc. Nobody seems to know.
Most people are middle class and they vote moderate Dem or moderate Repub. People want someone moderate and if the Dems can come up with someone moderate, that's a good reason to vote for them. Or vote for a moderate Republican if we can find one. Not some extremist crazy who tells you what you want to hear and then does something else.
You really want to believe that don't ya? Me thinks you should be more concerned with what trump I doing to the GOP, oh I bet you actually think he is making them look good
It's fact. Democrats are in worse shape, in terms of offices held, than they have been in more than 100 years.
Obama's leadership, the community agitator, completely destroyed the party.
The Repugs are for the most part, working for the interests of the corporations and the rich. You don't have to be a genius to see or know that - just a patriot and not delusional.

My advice, quit fighting the false war of Republican vs Democrat. There are crooked politicians everywhere.
Kimchee was responding to a post that I wrote regarding the minimum wage where a person is eligible for overtime pay.
While you have a point about both parties either abandoning or never helping the middle class, Obama did try to help the the middle class by raising the OT minimum level. If the OT minimum was left at 47K it would have helped fund the Social Security trust fund too.
We Democrats fight on because the Republicans and rich are at war with the New Deal.

I do not disagree, but as we speak you have a President in office that is doing exactly the same to the GOP, I am sure you disagree and will blame everyone else for the mess they are in.
I can't speak for all voters, but I myself, well, someone (in real life, not here on cd) called me a single issue voter.
I understand that single issue voters are a loose cannon that can make the results of an election completely arbitrary. If you are a single issue voter, presumably you will support absolutely anything provided that the supporters of that thing will support your single issue. Ideas of principle, logic, fairness go out of the window in the pursuit of that one objective.
To me, of course, This is an exaggeration. Nobody is so single issue that they will condon atrocities to support their issue. But they may condone a lot of unfairness, turn a blind eye to a lot of corruption, in supporting their issue.
There is one very compelling reason. Donald Trump isn't a Democrat. And his approval rating is running less than 40%. The President's party always struggles in the midterm, but in 2018 could be particularly bad for Republicans in the House, because of the Trump backlash. This is simple math.
54% want Democrats to regain control of the house, while only 38% want Republicans to keep control. It is not unusual, most people in the Center want a balance of power. Never attractive to the average citizen to have Administrative and Legislative branches under control of the same party, so this is a natural and expected trend. I'm surprised that you are surprised, but a lot of people seem to get wound around the partisan axle.
