Many Democrats believed that Clinton was a liar more interested in her political legacy than the American people. Americans who have suffered mightily in recent decades from unchecked immigration and poor federal policies (more in the form of a lousy tax system, such as no Value-Added Tax export rebates and import taxes and the absence of a territorial tax system, than trade agreements) didn't want more of the Clintons.

E.g., Clinton didn't campaign in Wisconsin while trying to gain a landslide by contributing wasted resources in Arizona.

She ignored, even in debates, Trump's repeated intent to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, while never once explaining all of the consequences of man-made climate agency, such as the acidification and warming of the oceans, threatening much of the world's source of protein.

Most Americans also well understood how the Clintons had enriched themselves grossly in the nation's service. They shared nothing in common with the Carters, for example.

“Anarchists did not try to carry out genocide against the Armenians in Turkey; they did not deliberately starve millions of Ukrainians; they did not create a system of death camps to kill Jews, gypsies, and Slavs in Europe; they did not fire-bomb scores of large German and Japanese cities and drop nuclear bombs on two of them; they did not carry out a ‘Great Leap Forward’ that killed scores of millions of Chinese; they did not attempt to kill everybody with any appreciable education in Cambodia; they did not launch one aggressive war after another; they did not implement trade sanctions that killed perhaps 500,000 Iraqi children.

In debates between anarchists and statists, the burden of proof clearly should rest on those who place their trust in the state. Anarchy’s mayhem is wholly conjectural; the state’s mayhem is undeniably, factually horrendous.”

One on one polling did consistently show Sanders was more likely to win the general election.

Their policy of non-stop pandering to the right hasn't helped them.

Democrats have lost over 900 seats in state legislatures nationwide since 2008 on top of losing the White House and both houses of Congress. Their policy of corporate centrism has proved to be a disastrous failure.

Have Democrats lost 900 seats in state legislatures since Obama has been president? | Politifact

Sanders is far-left but if "Hillary is far-left" I hate to see what your "far-right" is. That said, I think everyone should ignore list the OP.

How is Sanders far left? Far left would be communism, which he is certainly not.

People in the 1930s who were fighting for the 40 hour work week, minimum wage, the right to join labor unions, worker safety laws, etc. were called far left radicals and extremists by the right. Most of Wall Street and big business considered Franklin Roosevelt to be a leftist radical and even communist because he was the first US president to support those things. Big Business and the far right have been desperately attempting to dismantle all the progress made since the New Deal ever since.

We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.

Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me--and I welcome their hatred.

Communism is a form of far-left but not alone. Socialism is also far-left in America. In Europe it is indeed communism.

For a very conservative religious country like United States or Saudi Arabia Sanders may be considered far left. But politicians like him are common in western Europe, Canada and Japan and are considered moderates.
