For some workers, pay raise comes with loss of cheap child care - LA Times

Seems like now that the minimum wage is now $43,680 for a two-parent household working full-time and will go to $60,000 that many parents are very upset over losing child care subsidies.

Many cases they were paying next to nothing and now they they have no subsidy, so thus market rate child-care.

The cost of childcare will go up also $15 wage, plus unemployment insurance and employer FICA, also paid health insurance if they work more then 29 hours will certainly cause child care prices to skyrocket.

Also, many minimum wage workers these days are parents.

OH NOES! You make so much money the government no longer has to subsidize you, and effective subsidize that business. The horror.

I guess now families making $60,000 a year in California with parents working two jobs, will now go to the ultra-liberal legislature and insist on more tax payer money going to childcare subsidies.

The states with higher minimum wages can just increase the taxes now for more childcare subsidies. Why don't people sit at the kitchen table before they have children and figure out if they can afford it and take in to consideration all expenses associated with it.

I understand people have accidents or health issues and have kids and need government help and that is okay with me. The safety-net should be there to help them out.

It is the people who decided to start pro-creating with minimum wage jobs that I don't understand. They know full-well they can't afford today's child care expenses and decide to be fruitful and multiply with no common sense.

procreating is a basic human desire. Trying to moralize it or legislate it is doomed to failure.

Its only as we get older that the vast majority of us are no longer ruled by our baser instincts. And the poorer you are, the less distractions you have from them.
