"Amazon decides to offer cheaper prime membership"
Private company, they can do what they want. A while back, I decided they were getting too big for their britches. I don't use them anymore, but to each his own.
As if the middle class needs another slap in the face. We don't have that much money, we're overworked, and yet we still have to pay full price for everything. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Student's have been getting half price prime memberships for a long time now, no outrage over that?
Many low income families have no car, and the stores are all too far away to walk to. Obtaining needed household items (especially bulky items) can be a huge chore. I think a Prime membership would be a godsend for these families. If Amazon wants to pander to them, let them.
I use the crap out of my Prime membership despite my personal opinion that Jeff Bezos is a major d-bag. I got over it when I discovered that I can order a 40 pound sack of dog food and plastic storage bins at 8:00 am and have them delivered that same afternoon. 'Murica!!!
I'm still laughing at you calling out Jeff Bezos as a "major d-bag." You made my week!
So...people are upset about a $5 a month discount for folks on gov't assistance? Don't people have anything more important to be upset about?
Sounds kinda snowflakey to me....
Its not about a $5 discount for people on assistance.
The principle of a company charging different prices for different groups of people.
Yes its a marketing ploy to get the money of a certain segment just like the student discount. And in the larger scheme of things it no big deal. But how would you and others feel if they just gave the discount to say illegals, or women, or just men or just African Americans or only those earning over 300K/year?
