Oye.
That piece was from the NY Times, a very liberal newspap...oops...tabloid. Conservatives are not worrying about the Democrats.

The NYT piece discusses every same issue that has been discussed numerous times on this site. Conservatives have been telling liberals why Hillary lost, here on C-D, for six months now. And liberals have been calling us racists, misogynists, and uneducated poor white trash in response, for six months now.

A) Insulting those who voted for Trump and B) hoping that Trump implodes, is not a wining strategy for either the mid-terms or the next general election. But to this point those are the only two strategies I have seen in play by the D Party.

Exactly right. I participate in a number of forums and comment sections and it is clear that Democrats have not learned from their 2016 thrashing. Not even close. Looking down their nose at people who simply want a job and economic security is not a viable political strategy, but they haven't figure that out yet.

And let's not forget that they just hired Tom Perez - a guy who has never won an election - to guide them back to winning elections again. How stupid can a party be? We are witnessing it now.

Dems are counting on demographic change to help them dominate the future. It's only natural that they would stop caring about those they seek to replace and turn their focus towards those they seek to replace them with.

Not being black didn't help either.

Without some major changes the Democrat party is toast, the fact that Trump is in the WH should be more than enough evidence of that. Based on their leadership decisions and the policies they continue to promote it appears they are going to continue to shift to the left leaving the middle ground for the Republicans to suck up....

The Republican party is clearly not a harmonious group but with the religious right slowly being sidelined the most damaging faction in the party is becoming irrelevant.

The Democrats are left with a hodgepodge of factions they have pnadered to over the last few decades with many different views going in all different directions. Elitists (see the "Should the Democrats abandon the poor" topic posted after the election), minorities, environmentalists, socialists, etc etc.

To be fair, they are only copying what the Repubs did under Obama. Seemed to work for them.

yep, Democrats need a fight between the far left and the more moderate members of the party. But are there any moderates left in the party anymore?

I think the ideal candidate in the 2020 election would be someone who supports enforcing immigration laws that are already on the books, gun ownership by law abiding citizens, a national healthcare system, and reversing the effects of man made global warming. These are things I believe most Americans want. Someone willing to work with both sides and not caving to the extreme right or left would be a great leader. Someone that is genuinely interested in helping the poor and middle class and not afraid to stand up to the ultra wealthy.

But right now we have someone who is obsessed with catering to the far right extremists. He's promoting policies that will harm our people and our environment. He is laughably unfit to perform the job of POTUS. People should have seen this coming. Anyone who would say they were going to replace the ACA with something "wonderful that would cover everyone and the government is going to pay for it" without offering even the slightest hint of what that plan would be, was full of s***.

With all of the ugliness that's going on right now in the Trump administration, I think on some tiny level it's a good thing. This will finally be the wakeup call for the voting public we've been needing for a long time. We are getting a front row seat view of just what it is to have a clown turning our nation into a circus, a leader that is dragging our great nation right down in the toilet with him. "Draining the swamp"??? He's flooding it.

I just read this piece and, I too, have been saying this for a couple years. This guy hits the nail on the head. The Democratic Party, in its rush to be all inclusive, abandoned their core voting block. They are being lead down the road by vitriol heretics of political correctness hell bent on a socialist state. This also lays out why, if trump continues to fulfill his promises, you won't see another democrat president for 20+ years. I also suspect that 2018 will be a blood bath for democrats and republicans that have roadblocked Trumps agenda.

The Democratic Party is dead. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the ashes. My guess, there will be two parties. The vitriol heretics of political correctness and socialist state will eventually break off into a separate party leaving what little is left as the Democratic party which will eventually fade into the ether.
