Let's be honest, forums are becoming increasingly unpopular with the rise of social media, including platforms like Reddit.
I see the same arguments here from the same people, and I can't see any benefit besides entertainment (why I'm here).
So why are you here, exactly?
Agreed and same reason! Plus, it helps to hone my debate skills and keep me aware of the many debate fallacies that can be utilized to sidestep real discussion on issues.
It is apparent that civil discourse is not what either the (most) forum members want or the forum is encouraging. For example, threads are often created with titles and intent that is not even political, but meant to attack various groups and troll various groups. I have seen no evidence that this is being discouraged.
So, the actual exchange of ideas and potential educational value is almost nil. I stopped posting for 3 years and am only posting again because I have some time and it is a great way to "vent" (on strangers). LOL
I suspect I'll get bored with the repetition soon though and move on to more productive ventures again.

Moderator cut: personal attack
I'm here because I like it. Despite the fact that too few respond in a thoughtful way, I thoroughly enjoy it when someone does, and enjoy having the chance to make an argument.

I take it you mean you are decades older, in which case that is precisely my point, other than millennials the majority of people are hardly that bothered about social media, or bothered about constantly posting naff pictures on various sites via phones.
If however you mean you are decades younger than 'millennial' status then you should be getting ready for nursery school/kindergarten.
Im here partially for the entertainment /enjoyment of a good debate, but usually only show up when big events are happening like the election or now the Comey hearing. I find the everyday arguing and insulting boring and repetitive.
But I also show up to have my beliefs put to the test by those that dont agree with me. If I cant maintain my stance on an issue in the face of serious rebuttal from those on the other side, then I am willing to question the validity of my stance. I know this is likely unusual, but I have no desire to live in a bubble in which I only take in what supports my preconceived beliefs. Im willing to put them out there and see if they can stand up to criticism/rebuttal.
My family has several retail businesses in the mall, and i work 11 hours a day. (sometimes, I sleep in the store.)
This forum is my only entertainment. Well, if I can retire by the age of 40, (I have 9 more years to go )I would thank CD for it.
