I've been waiting so long for the private sector, I'm getting old. In cases it was done, it's amazing how those private companies robbed cities and states treasuries. They usually start with low bids that don't allow big profits. But give them the credit - it's only a starting point. They find ways to line their billionaire owners pockets with a a buck or two. After all, if insane profits aren't guaranteed, why will the "investors" step in?
Sure, it's also not classic capitalism. But that's life in US. From the point of view of investors, why will they get involved if other investment channels are available? They also don't want to take risks. If a multi billion project fails, they'd rather have others take risks. Today the entire globe is open to investments. China of Brazil can yield better profits. I wouldn't wait for them to step in.
I'm for private roads and by private I mean no govt highwaymen or taxpayer funds anywhere near them.
Really well then, coming from a Red State, the Stat and private business, that is of you are talking the government and a private Italian company are on in cahoots, everyone makes money, except the taxpayer.
May I ask, why is it you support things that are not in your best interests?
Infrastructure makes sense. But trumps plan of 90 percent coming from private money does not. So much so it will never happen other than a few isolated cases that do not impact the general public.
What tRump wants is what the GOP bosses have told him to want:
TOLL ROADS
Here in TX, one of the Pubs' favorite moves is turn public highways (built by tax dollars) into toll roads operated by their cronies.
I share similar views. Construction and maintenance of highways and bridges should be funded by direct tolls. If there isn't an investor who thinks they can make a profit off of tolls to build the infrastructure, then it shouldn't be built. Local roadways should be funded by gas taxes from the local area since tolls are impractical to implement on this scale. The same goes for public transportation. Raise the fares high enough to cover operations and maintenance.
In that case, you'd have large swaths of the country inaccessible. Rural areas would dry up.
Yeah, Obama and the Dems ignored our failing infrastructure for 8 years. Glad you have noticed.
Your Boys fought them tooth and nail of them attempting anything and I am sure we can go back and find how you supported them in it, Hypocrisy sometimes forgets that history does not change because someone says just ignore the track record.
