Trump's urgent calls to Preet basically confirm that Preet was actively pursuing a legal case against Trump and/or friends which Trump urgently wanted quashed.
Preet is not Trump's biggest problem. Mr. Mueller is.
As a former Director of the FBI, he knows all the people who are involved, is totally immune, and is charged with getting to the bottom of the Russian hacking.

The first witness to obstruction of justice is just one person against another.
The second witness to a separate obstruction of justice attempt is a pattern and both cases are more substantial.

Now we understand why Trump was keeping Preet.
Trump was trying to establish control over his office to quash an investigation.
Bharara said Trump called him twice before the inauguration, to "shoot the breeze."
Why in the world would the President call Preet unless he was trying to get something. That could be the only reason. No reasonable person would think Trump wanted Preet's curry chicken recipe.
If Trump wanted to know the weather in NY he could have phoned his wife.
He probably called Preet more often than his wife.
