I think this is probably one of the major reasons that older people are not drafted - they are more likely to tell the board to go to hell.

But I am curious about what others think... If you had been drafted at a young age, but knowing all the things you know now, would have served when called?
Older people are not drafted because they need young guns, not old ones who in most cases would bring down the rest of the platoon. The physical endurance that military guys go through is very intense and "older" people don't have that endurance any longer, in most cases. 18 to 25 years is about the prime age of those who are going in. I remember guys being in their mid-20's going into boot camp and we all thought they were old and over the hill, mind you, I was 18 when I was going through basic training.

I was classed as 4A in 1964. But I would have served if called. 2 older brother both served in the 60s, but neither went Viet Nam

I will not be forced to fight an unjust war against anyone. If it's a righteous war, you won't need to draft me. I'll be the first in line to fight.
I think you're saying about the same thing as most other people in this thread.

I oppose involuntary servitude of any kind. A just war will get enough volunteers.

Having said that, given the choice of going to war versus the other options I would go.

I didn't want to be drafted, so I joined the US Army when I was 19. This was in 1957. Would I do it again? Sure, I'm of the generation that believed we had a duty. As far as cassisus clay, he is a draft dodger.

If I've gotta get drafted to get me to go then I obviously don't believe in it and wouldn't go.

Probably the last military action I supported would've been WWII.

The draft has always been unnecessary. We've never needed it.

If America comes under attack, the lines to join up will be two miles long.

But if It's some contrived Dick Cheney type nonsense, then you'll have to draft people. That's when you know that the war is a corporate canard.
