If these predictions hold up, Macron will be the most powerful French President in recent memory.

Looking very good for Macron right now. If he forms an alliance with MoDem, there's a solid majority. Even better, Le Pen completely failed to turn her good showing in the Presidential election into Parliament seats.

Compare and contrast with May.

I was told that nationalism was sweeping over Europe, though.

The center holds!

It seems that the election of Donald Trump has woken people up, ever since he won the far right has been in retreat the world over. Le Pen, Wilders, UKIP, all wiped out.

If it must, the center can console itself with the fact that right wing (not just center-right, but RIGHT wing) parties have *ONLY* made unheard of second place showings in traditionally left wing Europe. From the Netherlands to Austria and France... and possibly soon Sweden.

Celebrate as you must, but the center will have to deliver and actually work for the concerns of the people of EUROPE (and not just globalist bankers and illegal immigrants, Muslims and migrants) if they wish to keep the tide at bay.

A few more terrorist attacks, some more inevitable mass rapes and demographic crises aren't going to help the center's cause, so they need to act.

Not sure I agree. Le Pen made it to a second place in the Presidential Election, but Front National completely failed to turn that into results in the Parliamentary election. If every runoff goes their way (unlikely), they'll get 10 seats. They're more likely to stay at their current 5 (IIRC) seats. Before the election, some analysts predicted 60 seats or more.

And UKIP was a major power in getting Brexit on the agenda, but failed to get a single seat in the last UK election.

Then tell the DNC to find a Macron foe 2020. What's stopping them?
