This was the first I'd heard of Warmbier's admission to the press that he had been offered bribes by his university's secret society of a car for himself if he would steal the banner and money ($265K) for his family if he got caught and didn't return.
So what I'd like to know is what have the Virginia University and American authorities done about the university's corrupt secret society that coerced Warmbier to risk getting himself into so much trouble? And did they hold up their end of the deal and pay the $265,000 they promised to his mother?
If his family was in such severe financial difficulties then how could Warmbier afford to go to university, and to make the trip to NK?
.
You must realize that it makes no sense for a reason...the North Koreans made it up and instructed Otto to say what is a coerced confession.
Not necessarily. There's a possibility he can be revived. Nobody really knows what his medical condition is and how severe it is. NK isn't very medically advanced so they may have misdiagnosed his condition.
There's a possibility he tried to commit suicide by poisoning himself. IF he really had botulism or some other kind of poisoning (whether it was self-induced or not) it will show up on tests when he is admitted to American medical facilities and is taken care of properly with American advanced medical treatment. If the poisoning (whatever it was) didn't provide the desired result then taking an overdose of sleeping pills can also cause a coma.
.
Otto's brain damage is consistent with brain damage seen from an episode of severe lack of oxygen to the brain. I suspect that Otto was subjected to repeated episodes of asphyxiation to coerce him into saying/doing what they wanted. One such episode most likely was more than Otto's body could handle and his brain was deprived of oxygen for too long. NK tried to hide this for over a year until the diplomat from Sweden demanded to see Otto.
Agree that no one should go to NK. But this is a college kid, and the whole family is suffering. I hope he is able to get treatment in the states that will lead to his recovery.
You can hear the coerced confession of Otto at this Kangaroo court trial in its entirety here.
There is only two options (possibly only one) with north korea. Initiate massive military retaliation against them or sign a treaty with them. A massive military campaign is far more palatable than a war after his ICBM arsenal has been tweaked to work and expanded. A treaty with them would likely by broken by the North Koreans later on anyway.
US attacking North Korea would be nothing like Iraq or Afghanistan. That war would break our governments bank account and have a cost in blood far higher than the nation could stomach.
It's perfectly reasonable to sentence a kid to fifteen years hard labor for stealing a banner.
They killed him...they just released his still breathing body.
Unforgivable. I can't imagine why anyone would step foot in that hell-on-earth.
My thoughts exactly.
What possible reason would there be to risk being accused of being a spy, or ... disappearing without a trace?
And Otto was arrested on On January 2, 2016. On March 16, 2016 he was convicted. This was not a issue to anyone except for his parents until this week. CD created a thread on this two months ago and no one responded. Thirteen months is a bit long to wait to create threads and tear apart a video. This was already covered in 2016.
Never understand why some of these idiots go to North Korea.
He was enticed by a Chinese travel agency.

I do, since I happened to be in a taxi and listened to the press conference the doctors gave.

According to the press conference, CAT scans, X-rays and MRI tests showed no sign of any physical injuries. There was no indication of a fractured skull or any other broken bones and no evidence he was maltreated in any way.

Yes, that is possible.

He's brain-dead, so, yeah, he's effectively dead. The family had requested that the doctors not discuss Warmbier's prognosis, so we can only speculate on what that might be.

Except that he went into a coma after his trial, not before.
