News9.com - Oklahoma City, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports | Lawmaker's anti-gay comments attract attention

This Oklahoma lawmaker says the "gay problem" is the #1 problem facing this country and that gay people are worse than Islamic terrorists such as those who hijacked planes on 9/11. She says America will not last more than a few more decades if something isn't done about the "gay problem." Read the responses to the video and you will find hundreds of Oklahomans agree with her stance. Some people are even suggesting all gays be but to death.

If Fundamentalist Christians think America is so bad and are so set on making Old Testament law the law of the land, they go to a deserted island somewhere and start their own Talibanistic country. Of course they would have to follow the laws of clean and unclean foods, and burn people alive who wore clothes of more than two fabrics.

As an Oklahoman I'm ashamed of Mrs. Kern's anti gay rants. It seems so ancient to do such a thing in this day and age. But I hope the kind of attitude behind her ranting is becoming out of style in Oklahoma and most of all in Oklahoma City, where Kern's district is located. In recent years, it has been good and just about unbelievable that Oklahoma County where Oklahoma City is actually elected it's first gay county commissioner. It happened to coincide with a change in management and editorial change at the Oklahoman, which had often gone on anti-gay tirades on its editorial page. From out of that change, Oklahoma City could hardly believe their eyes when the Oklahoman had nothing to write but praise for that gay county commissioner for his first few months performance in office.

That commissioner was most recently appointed by the governor of Oklahoma to fill a vacancy on the State Corporation Commission. So Oklahoma in November may elect its first gay candidate for a state wide office. OKC also recently elected the state's first openly state representative. So Oklahoma isn't all that bigoted and hateful. There's a good share of people who don't try to make a big deal out of sexual orientation. Hopefully, the people will hold Kern accountable for her rants by voting her out of office.

Some places in OK are fairly liberal. Norman is liberal, OK City is liberal, Tulsa is liberal, Grove is liberal.

.

Intersting set of values this woman must have if she believes whatever consenting adults do in private is a greater crime than the very public murder of over 3,000 people

This makes sense to ME--after all, didn't the coming of Columbus"DESTROY the WESTERN HEMISPHERE" ? Aren't the officers of the L.A.P.D. committing "GENOCIDE against BLACKS in SOUTH CENTRAL ?" Didn't western civilization pretty much "RUIN most once-successful "PRIMITIVE cultures ?" Aren't the Minutemen really a "HATE GROUP that targets HISPANICS ?" And isn't George Bush REALLY "JUST ANOTHER ADOLPH HITLER ?"

I'm not at ALL surprised that "Gays" are deemed worse than "Terrorists"...makes as much sense as anything else, I suppose...

Right on with Norman, because I think in recent years it has had an openly gay councilman. But it's hard to see Tulsa as being liberal.

what a very Nazi like statement from her! She is obviously nuts if she thinks gays are the #1 problem. At best by some estimates the gay population hovers around 10% so there are roughly 30 million people who are worse than terrorists in America according to her statement. What I want to know is how did she get elected in the first place?

People who subscribe to that line of thinking are no better than any other sect which believes that their beliefs entitle them to kill of all of those who don't agree with their dogma.

Shameful and ridiculous. Shame, shame on you Oklahoma--this woman should be recalled.
