Ten years in the Navy of which three are on a carrier. Bridge watchstander. I know what I am talking about. In a grounding or collision incident, all records of this on watch are scrutinized. By you saying what you said means you have no clue what will happen in a formal enquiry.
I know this because there were no reported problems that the Fitzgerald was having. Duh.
The Navy will not admit to anything to the press until the formal enquiry hands down its finding. So the reality is you know nothing if anything was wrong with the Fitz's gear.
You forgot the surface watch. The OS's ( the radar guys) responsible for tracking contacts. They generate the plots, determine course and speed of contacts, closest approach, generate maneuvering solutions to avoid contacts by a safe distance.
Watch supervisor and SWO (Surface Watch Officer) would have to had failed miserably at their jobs as well.
I didn't forget them. They typically work in CIC. I was referring to bridge watchstanders.
