For seniors, the AARP is the equivalent of the NRA for gun dealers and enthusiasts.
As a resident of Ohio, I've been seeing their very effective ads opposing the House-passed Republican healthcare bill. The ads feature an elderly couple learning how their insurance bill will become a massive "age tax" on the elderly under the House bill.
The ads target Republican senators by name, but certainly are not good for the Trump brand, Republican brand, or for the Republican House members who voted for the Trump bill that Trump now calls "mean, mean, mean."
I'm not certain that I've ever seen legislation passed by the House that so punitively targeted a core base of the party passing the bill. I guess that only is possible when Congress becomes so partisan that House members vote on a bill that has had no hearings and which many of them have never read. Shouldn't a heavy price be paid for such legislative incompetence in 2018?
<<Additionally, AARP is concerned about aspects of the bill that it believes “weaken Medicare, undermine protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and make changes to Medicaid that would put some of our most vulnerable citizens at risk,” according to Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond. >>
The House bill proves that Republicans are insensitive to the needs of seniors. E.g., could you ever imagine the House Republicans voting for a bill with even popular restrictions on gun ownership, let alone a hefty annnual tax on gun owners?
The AARP is taking a leadership position among other groups apposing the House bill.
AARP is a money grubbing organization little concerned with what is good for older retired people. They are more interested is selling products and requesting donations.

Does it matter? Their tens of millions of members obviously value the organization and its advocacy on their behalf.
Good. Bypass the GOP propaganda machine and go directly to the people who, A, are going to feel the hit; and B, and most importantly, who vote faithfully.
It's about time for the Republicans to start getting some blowback for their reverse Robin Hood ideology.
Ignore the idealistic huffing and puffing and follow the money.
AARP makes a ton of money selling supplemental insurance policies. They're just protecting their income flow. Everything else is just bs.
You can all drop the "follow the money" act -- we know you don't believe it. Since Trump, that weak talking point lost any credibility it had.
