Probably best considering his condition. Peace be with the family.
sad to say, but yeah, I agree. reports said he had extensive brain damage.
poor guy. he pulled a stupid stunt but this was a ridiculously high price to pay for attempting to steal a propaganda poster.
Poor kid. Very sad outcome. His parents have been through hell.
If I got popped for every banner I ever stole from racetracks and festival grounds across the U.S. I'd be dead ten times over. It was a petty crime with unrealistic harsh penalties. North Korea sucks the big one.
Warmbier died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, days after he was released from captivity in North Korea. He was surrounded by family members at the time of his death, hospital officials said.
In a statement released by the hospital, family members said Warmbier had been unable to speak, see or react to verbal commands since his return to Cincinnati June 13.
How will North Korea react to this? Will there be charges of murder? Very sad.
Sad for the family. Too bad they have to hurt, and the guy who should pay the price for being a criminal doesn't feel the hurt.
Lesson: Don't go to these countries which are enemies of the United States. Bad things can happen. Further, understand the laws of the land which you are going to visit, be it friend or foe. What is acceptable in a liberal place like America is highly illegal in other nations. It is a stupid show, but offers a lesson: Arrested Abroad (close title). People either do stupid things, or they get caught up naively in local events of which they seemingly have no understanding. They end up serving huge sentences for crimes which we might think of as being silly. They might also spend a very long amount of time in jail awaiting a "trial". No lawyer, no understanding of the "system" and no access to communication of any kind. Sort of like Otto: Nobody heard from him in months; he was brain dead and nobody knew. But for a little homework on local laws, there goes you.
Horrible. Such a waste. May his memory be a blessing.
I can't help but think about all of the other political prisoners in North Korea who are experiencing this, and worse. The terror of being a North Korean citizen must be overwhelming. People who have fled report that the brainwashing is so strong that people are certain that the government can even read their thoughts.

These people are truly hostages in their own homeland. Starving hostages at that. We can't imagine the level of terror they live in every single day. It puts things in perspective.

No, we can't charge another country with murder. We either put more sanctions on them, or drop bombs.
Sanctions are more likely.
