Not a single U.S. job will be lost. The following is from YOUR link
You had an opportunity to use a pun and lost out. ((That's okay, I'll take care of it))
While we may not be making the Focus in America anymore, we should Focus on the positive aspect that not a single U.S. job will be lost. And in case anyone missed it in the quoted post, might I direct your Focus to the following statement:
Quote:
Ford reiterated today that no U.S. jobs will be lost at Michigan Assembly in Wayne where the current version of the Focus is built -- a position it has taken since it first announced it would move Focus production to Mexico.
Ford said it will continue making the current Focus at Michigan Assembly Plant through mid-2018. After that, the plant will be converted to produce the Ranger midsize pickup truck in late 2018 and the Bronco midsize SUV in 2020.
I disagree, all Ford vehicles should be made on U.S. soil maybe we need better negotiations with China. Why won't they allow our cars to be imported anyway? Look at all the 'made in China ' stuff we allow.
Our country needs to start producing more---- so that there is more things available for export.
To do that would make profit impossible for Ford.
They are a global company. Making their models in the countries where those models sell the best makes far better sense than making them here, shipping them, and then transporting them by land over a country as big as China.
They have to stay competitive to stay afloat, and staying afloat means the cars must be made where Ford can make the biggest profit.
This is the same reason why some of the Japanese and Korean makes have factories here.
Sure, there's a lot of Made in China stuff being imported, but there's a big difference between a very high added-value product like an automobile and a T-shirt. What is profitable with one product does not always apply to all other products.
Has nothing to do with Trump. It is a smart move by Ford because CHINA does not allow US manufacturer cars to be imported from the USA. Ford just wants to expand to one the worlds fastest growing economies of over 1 billion people. They want a piece of the pie. Since US wealth is being shipped to China daily.
My brother works for infiniti and says that Chinese students come in to buy cars all the time and that their parents pay for them with cash sent over from china.....

so you are saying that wealth is coming from china to buy a US made product and effectively rebalancing some of those TVs....

Ford has talked of bringing back the ranger and bronco off and on for some time and it hasn't happened yet. I'd take their promise with a grain of salt.

Ford has had offshore plants since the 1920's.
Auto manufacturing plants ( and commercial jets, for that matter) follow the market. Assembling in the country where cars are intended to be sold allows Ford and other auto manufacturers to compete on a level playing field in terms of payroll and avoiding shipping and import tariffs.

The US has 5 % of the world's population. China has about 20%. China has more buying power than any other country.
Volkswagen is the top selling car in China. Most auto manufacturers have had assembly plants in Cina for decades. Labor costs are cheaper. There's no shipping cost and no imfport tariffs. Foreign manufacturers can compete with Chinese manufacturers in their own back yard.
Guess Ford could choose to lose global market share and profit and only manufacture in the US.
Has Trump Org ceased producing all consumer goods, clothing, leasther goods, jewelry, home furnishings, etc, in China, Bangladesh, Viet Nam and Mexico? If not, why not?
Thought he was focused on MAGA.
