Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are demanding answers from the White House as to
why senior adviser Jared Kushner still has a security clearance despite reports that he failed to disclose meetings with Russian officials while he was seeking clearance.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) sent a letter signed by the committee's Democrats to President Trump's Chief of Staff Reince Priebus that requests documents pertaining to Kushner's security clearance by July 5.
The letter also addresses the White House's "failure to suspend General [Michael] Flynn's Security Clearance."
"We have serious concerns about whether the White House is properly safeguarding classified information," Cummings wrote.
Cummings accuses Kushner in the letter of letting the American public be deceived.
"It appears that Mr. Kushner allowed his colleagues at the White House - and the American people - to be misled about his multiple communications with Russian officials," the letter reads.
