None of Murray's backers have seen fit to defend their hero any more, sad.

Anyway, the ACLU has filed an amicus brief, and it is - like everything else in this parody of a trial - entertaining as all out, and completely merciless to Murray. Sort of like most pro-First-Amendment responses in this thread, but with citations.

Some excerpts:
Quote:
Bob Murray thinks John Oliver was mean to him, and he doesn’t want him to be mean again. While that is sad for Bob Murray, it is unconstitutional for a court to order such relief.
Quote:
And with regard to the Dr. Evil remark, it should be noted that truth is an absolute defense to a claim of defamation … It should be noted that the very mean comparison arose from both a striking physical resemblance and a statement made by Plaintiff’s General Counsel with an uncanny similarity to statements made by a more youthful Dr. Evil.
The brief even comes with helpful photos of Dr. Evil and Murray side-by-side.

All fun aside - this is a video that Murray tried to use the courts to ban. That right there is a blatant disregard for the First, and that's a serious issue. Murray seems to feel that his money should buy him the right to silence opponents. If you guys want to call yourself in favor of free speech, stop defending this evil clown.

So, I thought it was quite suitable to follow up.

Murray suffered a bit of a setback in having the case thrown out, but then he filed an appeal. (Remember, this isn't about justice. It's about silencing critics.) And - at the same time - all the judges on West Virginia's Supreme Court were impeached. Yes, we live in the dumbest timeline.

Anyway, the court re-opened, Murray energy filed for bankruptcy and decided that the CEO's vanity lawsuit wasn't the best use of their funds. John Oliver and the sixfoot squirrel(s) are back. And - well, it boils down to don't sue John Oliver for frivolous reasons. Because when you lose, he has a team of writers, a studio audience, and a kickline on Broadway to hammer home the point.
