I've got to agree with you here. Cripes, what ever happened to "To Kill a Mockingbird" or, frankly, anything by the late great Ray Bradbury. "Dandelion Wine" is the most perfect summer book ever written!

Yep, good choices - for language arts/literature/English. This controversial booklist was for an American government class, IIRC, so it's being entirely non-fiction doesn't seem inappropriate - but the politically partisan nature of every bit of that non-fiction certainly does seem like a very poor choice -and one which was bound to raise objections. Not too bright on the teacher's part, no matter what their politics.

Not anyone I'd want to see in the classroom.
