Some states, Missouri and Kansas for example, are cutting in-home care. This allows people to stay in their homes at a cost of about $31,000. a year. When it is cut, those same people end up in nursing homes which cost $85,000 a year and yet the republican governors of both states say it is to save money.
Now, they want to cut pay to nursing homes, where are the sick and elderly to go?

From what I read I think there are enough GOP votes that won't support it that McConnell may be embarassed-
He usually has his ducks in a row but most bills they have passed have been less controversial than the health care destruction of Obamacare
The fact that they just lie to the media with their anti-Obama rhetoric--
Like the ACA was hatched in a back room w/o any back and forth between health care professional groups or the GOP and that it happened overnight
Those are just lies---and not even very believable ones

For Trump to come out after the House bill was passed and say there should be more money going into the health care plan and then come out and support this bill which guts Medicaid benefits just as badly--just not as soon...again you have someone lying out of both sides of his face...

The US is the wealthiest nation but because of its political chasm will allow millions of people to suffer from an overburdened system because it will not rein in insurance, big Pharma, and the medical groups like AMA...
If the government will not set limits on the costs of drugs and other medical services---which reign in and stabalize costs--there within 10 yrs only millionaire will be able to afford health care...

You and I know that cutting in-home health care to cuts costs is a lie--
Nursing homes have a big lobby
Some of those governors have friends that own stock in nursing homes or own the companies outright
Just like Sessions wants to enlarge the scope of private prisons--
That is going to make money for quite a few people who likely contribute to GOP causes...

It is all about the money....
There are many Democratic politicians--Corey Booker for one--who have had large contributions from health care lobbys and who have not really voted against those interests although they talk a good game when they are in front of a camera...

Maybe churches would help find a place for her to live? But needing the services that a nursing home provides, that seems complicated or beyond reach.

Most people who enter a nursing homes don't last/or stay more than 100 days.

My mother was in nursing home for iver 5 yrs
Their house had open flame space heaters and she needed a high level oxygen for her emphysema
Couldn't use the oxygen spinner most people w COPD use

Many people w dimentia or Alzheimer's live for years--sometimes decades--
Using a general statement that I don't trudt to be factual evidence is too glib a response
Even if some patients might be there 3 months many families cannot afford that cost and health indursnce unless a special LTC policy does not cover it under ACA or Medicare

Wr are sn aging society
The need for nursing home care will grow even more in next 10yrs faster in 10 after thst

What would actually be politically "smart" for him would be to keep the republicans in this jam for a while longer and then, like a benevolent king, "demand" that older people should have a right to nursing homes, care, etc, thus a change in the bill.

He gets it, and, BAM, all of a sudden, lots of people will be saying "see? it wasn't what you said, that was politicians, not him, he trully CARES for us, media lies, etc, ad lib".

It gets voted and all the other drastic measures get voted too. And when democrats and some republicans try to point at those other drastic measures, easy peasy for Trump to call them "the boy who cried wolf".

Well, if he were smart (not ethical of course, but that has already been established, even by his supporters), he could do that .... If he were....

I am informed by my elder lawyer it is usually not more than 3-5 years.

In my town a 2 bedroom apartment that provides 2 meals a day is $6000 a month. No help. If you ring the bell for somebody to come help you, it is a $30 charge.

Real live nursing home care is 600 a day.

It is my understanding that you have to spend almost all you have for Medicaid to help. They can put your assets in a Miller trust so you can access Medicaid, but the government gets it all when you die.

Also, Medicaid can see how you spent every dime of your money for 5 years prior to qualifying for medicaid.
