That would generate roughly $2.5 trillion. Only about a third of that is needed. We already fund health care through taxes by about $1.5 trillion and $800 billion in additional taxes is needed to fund 80% of total health care costs which is the typical ratio in any developed country (some procedures are not funded by taxes like vanity cosmetic plastic surgery for example or the private health care industry which people can go to if they want). The employer part of the payroll tax would simply replace the employer health insurance premium. We can also reduce the payroll tax portion and implement a small 4% federal sales tax for example so everyone has some skin in the game.

I'll admit all this is confusing as hell. We wasn't able to afford Obamas health care and Trumps plan is just a tax break for the rich. There is no easy answer here it should like to me IF you want truly affordable healthcare then the government should go after the insurance companies who keep raising the rates.

Sadly this will never happen because no matter what party is in office the insurance companies line their pockets with money. So people like my wife and I are never going to have it.

Medicare-for-all is the solution.

Senator Sanders sums it up. The scare mongering of ridiculous costs that would bankrupt America is just insurance company propaganda. Every other major country can do it, so can we. We just have to have the guts to take on the ruling donor class and their health care lobbyists:

While I agree with you and Sanders the press keeps everyone scared and keeps them fighting amongst each other, so this will never happen. At least in my life time.

If I were designing a Health CARE not Health Insurance system it would provide care from pre-birth to death for everyone. It would be paid for by the "all income from all sources" tax I have previously proposed. Under that system the top 10% (90th percentile and above) would pay for Health Care.

It can happen if we fight for it. The current for-profit rip off system is also bad for a lot of companies and with health care costs approaching 20% of GDP the insurance companies and big pharma are basically shooting themselves in the foot. They are destroying our economy which means powerful forces will push back for a national health care system that is good for the national security of our country, like every other developed country in the world has.

You and I usually don't agree on very much, but I'm with you 100% when it comes to healthcare.
