I sympathize for people from low-COL states coming to DC but.. with that salary, those benefits, that pension, not to mention whatever they earn for books/speeches/votes (ha)/etc. I think they should be able to rent a place a few months a year.
Saw this in a earlier thread I didn't comment on. I'm actually OK with this. Or maybe just a payment voucher.....lol. say...a special section 8 voucher that covers 100% of the rent in DC. Pegged to the median rental price in the area.
No. They knew what the job was when they auditioned. By running, they agreed to the terms. This reminds me of the Tea Party congressman that campaigned against government health care and on the first day, demanded to know when his health coverage would start. No.
In what job that you ever held were you allowed to vote yourself more money or a larger expense account?
I think this is actually pretty common IMO. You can always negotiate a raise for yourself, and if you manage a company/team budget, you can fight for more dollars from your management. I don't have a problem with him asking but I would say no.
