There's no doubt that Illinois is going to default on their financial obligations. Should the US taxpayers set a precedent to bail out states that have acted irrresponsibly to cause them to default on their financial obligations?

The Feds systematically transfer funds from blue states and give it to the red states. Payback would be a *****.

At least you have a basis for this but the precedent would mean every other states, even those hated "red" states, would just default and pass the bill.

Not sure where you are going with that. Those are the loons, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pot, etc that believed in collectivism. I do not. I owe nothing to Illinois or anyone living there.

Even if that were true it is the blue States that are going broke.
