I, and many others I know, WANTED Trump to get his crap together upon assuming the office. I WANT to like him. I WANT to support him. But he makes it nearly impossible.
Its funny that you say one has to give respect to get respect. The man has not given an ounce of respect to anyone since he began his candidacy. He's lied to people who trust him, he makes fun of people, he twists words, goes back on promises, etc. He has ZERO integrity yet you people still love him.
That is exactly why they love him. Its his anti-social behavior. They do not care what he does just how he does it. He can flip flop on an issue and they flip flop in lock step. Just look at his campaign promises on healthcare vs. what he has championed in office.
Joe and Mika have been pouring scorn and insults on Trump for months. Trump punches back 1 time and suddenly liberals get a case of the vapors as though Joe and Mika have been holding the moral and rhetorical high ground the whole time.

He has NOT gone after ANYBODY who has NOT ATTACKED him first.

This is one of those times when I think about the beauty of the phrase, "It's more blessed to give than to receive". Contains some common sense logic as well. i.e. In order to give something, one must necessarily have it to begin with, in other words, one is blessed to have the 'thing' & is therefore in a position to give that 'thing'.
Also agree wholeheartedly if one desires respect, one must be ready, willing & able to give respect.
& perhaps those who 'still love him' ~ love him unconditionally? i.e. They do not hope he changes.
