Illinois and Puerto rico seem to show the same sort of pattern , huge spending , huge pensions and powerful unions , loss of population and astronomical pension liabilities . Credit ranking outfits like S&P and Moody's are expected to slap Illinois with a "junk" credit rating any day now should it fail to produce a budget. The first state ever to reach junk status

What's the next state or territory facing massive problems?

Why guess people, just look at the wholey non-partisan bond ratings for these places and that will answer your question.

I have read that in some business papers a lot lately . Strange how a rich state can be losing so many people and companies . It seems like declining population and lot of spending high government pensions etc. are a recipe for disaster.

Kansas. Not only are they in financial trouble but have nothing to show for it. At least the other states have a good school system. Kansas is the poster child of why trickle down economics does not work.
