I served 8 yrs on the military. Also have dealt with transgender issues with a relative, and consider myself to be a very open minded person regarding tg issues. With that said, I don't believe that pretty sexual reassignment tg people should be in the military. If someone suddenly declares themselves to be tg, while in the military they should be medically discharged. People going thru transition are almost obsessed with it, and are not a good fit mentally at that time for military service. The mental issues involved in transitioning, and the costs involved to transition are too high.
The military should be focused on winning wars.
Gay people are not the same as transgender people. Don't know why they are lumped together
I support gays having rights but think transgenders seem mentally ill
Until the 1970s, homosexuality was classified as a mental illness. The mental health community does not endorse the idea that transgender people are mentally ill. So what are you basing that idea on? Just your "ew gross" feels?
I don't necessarily believe transgender = mental illness; nor do I believe bathroom issue is the true issue.
This is the issue here, and I have already posted it
There are between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender troops in the active-duty force of 1.3 million, according the RAND Corp. which conducted a study for the Pentagon on the issue. Of those troops, RAND estimates that between 30 and 140 would like to seek hormone treatment, and 25 to 130 would seek surgery. The estimated annual price tag: $2.4 million to $8.4 million, per year.
Treatment is estimated to cost as much as $50,000 per soldier. Treatment generally moves from counseling to hormone therapy, and in relatively rare cases, gender reassignment surgery. A military doctor must deem the treatment medically necessary.
This is the only reason I don't want them in the military. We pay for the military but we should not have to pay for their transgender maintenance. I would be fine if they were in the military as long as there was a stipulation that says they have pay for their own hormone treatments and surgeries.
I don't believe for a hot second that Trump consulted anyone. He has already stated he knows more than them, anyway, so why would he consult their advice? This was done for 2 reasons- shore up his base with the deplorables and deflect from the ongoing mess with Russia and Sessions.
trans people are causing monetary and other issues with the army
for fricks sake, they are people who claim they can change from man to woman and back. This is not surprising
The monetary figure given is not significant, and the associated per-soldier costs could be offset by reductions in benefits for schooling and other things. This has absolutely nothing to do with economics or readiness or military culture. This is purely a spite move to punish trans people because there is a group of people in the US who find it gross and are too lost in their own biases to educate themselves.
