Latinos key to U.S. economic growth, study finds - Jul. 1, 2017
Quote:
Latinos are becoming an increasingly critical engine for America's economic growth, a new report finds.

In 2015, the 55 million Latinos living and working in the U.S. were responsible for $2.13 trillion -- or 11.8% -- of America's $18.04 trillion gross domestic product, according to a study released Thursday by the Latino Donors Collaborative, a nonpartisan association of Latino business, political and academic leaders.

And those contributions are expected to continue to grow.

By 2020, the researchers estimate that Latinos will fuel nearly a quarter of all U.S. GDP growth, and represent 12.7% of the country's total GDP. Helping to power that growth will be the growing number of young Latinos who will be joining the workforce as an older generation of American workers -- the Baby Boomers -- retire.
Very interesting article. I have been saying for some time now that we need more immigrants, not less. This isn't fake news, these are facts. Real facts. Of course, the Trump supporters on CD claim the Latino immigrants and their offspring are lazy leeches sucking the country dry

Yeah, I read another piece about this about a week ago.

Latinos are going to be a huge part of the economic engine of this country in coming years. Count on it.

We need more immigrants but why does it have to be Latino? Why not Asians, Africans, or others?

LOL. so they under achieved and you are proud. At 55 million, they were 18% of US population, with just 11.8% of GDP, so they performed 2/3rd as well per capita as US overall.

Latinos drive economic growth everywhere. That's why Latin America is such an economic powerhouse.

Very few of us are against legal immigration. Some like myself feel that we need to raise the bar. Far to many immigrants are on some form of government subsidy. We don't need to import more burden.

From USA today which is hardly a Trump supporter or right wing rag. More than half of immigrants are on welfare. This is simply unacceptable and unsustainable.
We need to be more selective.

The cultural kinship with Hispanics is an immeasurable advantage for which we should be eternally grateful. We share many of the same religious beliefs, customs and familial structures, societal norms and values. Look at Europe which is having to rely on Muslim immigration for growth/labor versus the US.

Most of them won't be immigrants anyway. Native born already make up 60% of all Latinos, and that number keeps constantly growing. 3rd gen (native born to two native born parents) already made up 30%+ of all Latinos at the last census.

???? They're coming too. In fact, in recent years, immigrants from both china and india have outnumbered immigrants from mexico. https://www.us-immigration.com/us-im...-than-mexican/

Of course, there's still a larger mexican immigrant population here because of past years.

And, as others have mentioned, it seems to me that for those of you who are worried about cultural integrity, chinese folks could eventually have a much larger impact than latinos.
