Note: This isn't directed towards Trump, simply asking in a general sense. In the U.S Presidents have always gotten away with bad stuff, but in the end, none have ever been actually say sent to prison. You look at Nixon and with the whole watergate thing he resigned but he had loads of money so that wasn't a big deal. Same with Clinton, he was "impeached" yet was not forcibly removed from office.
Now for the charges they had they may not be (relatively speaking) that huge of a deal. But what if a President did something truly heinous? For example, being caught red handed having sex with a 12 year old girl. Obviously most would want the person booted out ASAP, but realistically if a president did such would they simply "resign" ultimately still being able to live out their days with all their wealth, "impeached" but ultimately being allowed to continue their term, or would they actually get their just desserts in spending a prison cell with Bubba?
Again, I realize there have been presidents that have faced consequences, but so far it's been of the "Well, this sucks, but I still get to live a nice fanciful life where all my needs are met and I have enough money to get whatever I want" type lifestyle. I am talking about an actual punishment where not only do they actually have to spend decades behind bars but watch out in regards to dropping the soap kind.
I couldn't honestly answer that. One wishes they could say they would but I certainly wouldn't be so sure of it.
I believe the last two presidents have done things as bad and no one holds them accountable. Both have got people killed over their lies.
No, they would never be put in with the regular population under any circumstance. It's not just presidents at that. James Clapper admitted to perjury and yet what was done to him? Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Generally speaking, we do not put our presidents in prison. The worst punishment, if you call it that, was when Nixon was forced to resign. Of course, he was pardoned, but the disgrace and indignity was punishment enough. Clinton got off easy. He was impeached, which was the same as being admonished by a judge. It was just a slap on the wrist.
A president absolutely cannot be impeached and removed from office for policy, decisions, repercussions, or because someone has a vendetta or differing opinion. That would set a very dangerous precedent and would be tantamount to a coup. Our enemies would pounce on that in a second.

There is a political process and the legal process.
Removal of President is always a political or (in case of death) process.
This means legally he can get away with everything and anything and remain President as long as he is never impeached and found guilty.
"Once a president is impeached tried and found guilty of a crime can they be arrested, we have found one and only one person that has been specifically given the power within our government to arrest the president. The Senate Sergeant at Arms has the power to arrest anyone that violates Senate rules. The proof is in the following government website where it states: “The Sergeant at Arms is authorized to arrest and detain any person violating Senate rules, including the President of the United States. http://www.senate.gov/reference/office/sergeant_at_arms.htm"
Ford pardoned Nixon which is why he was able to skate.
In theory, any federal consequences that a President might face could be waived by the President coming on board.
Charges brought by a state are another matter.
