Do they not KNOW what to do to regain the voters or do they not WANT TO make the changes? I think its a mixture of both. Everyone even democrats have said what needs to be done so why no change? Are they just going to complain about President Trump until November 2018? That won't work.

This article said absolutely nothing new. There's basically an op-ed with this same argument written every other day. It's been discussed. At this point, everyone knows the Democratic party plays too much into identity politics. Even people unwilling to abandon it completely agree that the strategy they've been using is starting to fail them.

This isn't some new revelation. People have been talking about this same thing since even before Trump won the election.

Do you think its because they don't know WHAT to do or that they DON'T want to change? I think its a mixture....I think they are afraid of losing support from some of their favored classes of people if they come back and try to gain votes from the white working class especially.

CNN
Also known as the Cable News Network. CNN is one of the major mainstream news networks in America along with MSNBC, Fox News, ABC and others. However, like all mainstream news media outlets, they only care about their stupid ratings instead of factual evidence and real journalism.

Real journalism and research doesn't apply to mainstream media outlets such as CNN since they only care about selling their dumb stories. They usually accomplish this by exaggerating their stories, using hyperbole, using fear-mongering, making up their own facts or false information or by giving you only partial truth. They also usually try to sway your opinions, beliefs and views to match their own for whatever ulterior motive or reason. Logic and reasoning does not apply to CNN or other mainstream news channels.

Come on - it's only been about seven months after the most startling upset in decades. What's wrong with Americans that they expect change overnight?

Trump apologists quote Russian government propaganda as gospel and hate the American FREE press.

Well, I don't think there is a "what do they need to do" answer. Not a simple one. What is needed to get Democrats who voted for Trump in Texas will be quite a bit different than what is needed to get back Democrats who voted Trump in Maine.

I'm already seeing a slight tonal shift in how they talk about identity politics. It has to be slight and gradual. A massive change would risk alienating large chunks of their base. Even if a massive change would benefit them in the long run, it would only hurt them short term. They need a win in 2018, and a win in 2020 for president, primarily because Trump could have as many as three more picks for Justice is he wins re-election, which the Democrats do not want. If they do pull a win in 2020, the courts will end up fairly balanced, where as a Trump win in 202 is a very conservative Supreme Court, which the Democrats do not want.

I wouldn't expect major changes by 2018. What happens in 2018 will need to be more grassroots. Democratic congressmen need to appeal to their base, not the country. If anything, watching the Senate is the best path to see what we could expect in 2018, but even then, talking to Minnesota is different than talking to the country. There is no monolithic party strategy for winning elections; it depends entirely on the office that is being sought after.
