Nah, it proves - if anything - that the flight attendants need more training. An hour into flight, over the Pacific, @ cruising speed & altitude, if the perp opens the door, a lot of people die or are injured, plus there was a real risk the pilots would lose control & worst case, the plane disintegrates midair from pressure imbalance, or the door goes ripping down the outside of the plane, peeling off skin.
Once you break a bottle, you have a nasty weapon in your hand. Given the stakes, she should have immediately attacked. If the perp were a terrorist of whatever stripe, you likely don't have time to wait for someone bigger & stronger & better trained.
That may have been the case, had she the strength to actually bust the bottle.
She did enough to keep him from opening the door and alerting everyone else around, she needed help quickly.
Then a man stepped in.
I wonder what the flight attendants, from the late '40's to mid 80's think of what todays flight attendants face? Not to mention the actions of some of those attendants.

Per the story in the OP, one of the attendants struck the perp in the head twice with two bottles. One broke, doubtless leaving her a nice shiv in her hand. If it's me, fighting for my life & the airplane & the passengers & crew, & the perp has already indicated by his behavior that he's indifferent to the loss of his own life, the perp is grinning from ear to ear ...

A swift kick in the prunes, a coupla zip-ties, and let the courts handle him.
Only one? Cannot for the life of me, considering the seriousness of an opened door at altitude, why the whole damn planeload of passengers didn't pile on this azzhat. What were they all waiting for; decompression and a perhaps unrecoverable dive before acting?
How is this thread political or otherwise controversial?
