He's not telling the truth, he and Don Jr. lied. Trump knew about the meeting, probably when it happened.
My guess is that Tsr was on the email distribution for the meeting and they scrubbed it before Tjr released them.
One thing is for sure - DOJ, the FBI, and Robert Mueller all have a lot more information than the public does. If I had been in that meeting or knew about it I would be in a permanent state of pucker about now.

The Feds have the data from the NSA. They know who emailed what and where and when . The issue that nobody is talking about is the actual meeting. I am 100 percent sure the FSB spies have the actual meeting on tape and video. They will release it just in time to destabilize the regime...

And the meeting itself was set up as a Kremlin contact, by Trump Jr's own response in HIS e-mail back to them. "I LOVE IT"

The adoption issue was a good cover story.
If arrested she could always say that was the reason they had the meeting. She is sticking by that cover story and has evidence to support it too.
If Clinton dirt wasn't delivered, perhaps there is a good reason.
For example, someone was at the meeting that was not expected. Orders were to make sure the elder Trump was there himself.

Okay this opens up the possibility that Jr is a half-wit and unable to understand exactly what she was saying.
Perhaps she turned the conversation back to that of the cover story so that all parties could claim that was the real purpose of the meeting.
What she said makes sense.
If indeed "individuals connected to Russia were funding the DNC" that would be a clear violation of FECA if they were not Americans.
Remember that the procedure to condition an operative consists specifically of dropping hints, and holding out vague promises. She was just there to deliver some bait.
A turned spy for Russia must have a deep need. That need would not come till later in the year as Trump failed to rise in the polls.
