The obvious answer is - Russians saw the alternative ( Clinton) as the continuity of hostilities towards their country, an attempt to bring to fruition what Clinton's husband couldn't quite accomplish 25 years ago - that is finishing Russia off as any kind of viable competitor on the world scene.
Obviously Trump was a preference, and under these circumstances Putin's propaganda machine could advertise him as the "best alternative" with no problem.
But throw in the game Sanders the Socialist, and the picture would have been quite, quite different.
Sanders was standing for everything Putin's establishment doesn't like a bit; and if Russians were aware what Sanders was all about, the support in their political circles for Trump wouldn't have been THAT unanimous.

America first? He just promised $.7 billion to feed the poor in other countries while he cuts food stamps and Meals on Wheels here.

Well, Putin hasn't been in power for 17 years by being a dunce.

The guy is a master at subterfuge; he was able to hand-pick his successor twice, and take over himself both times afterward, corrupting the Russian democracy steadily as he's gone on. This may be the way he becomes the first new dictator of the 21st century, using a new kind of dictatorship.

And during all that time, he's been face to face with Clinton, Bush, Obama and now Trump. That has provided him all he needs to know about American presidents from both our parties.

Vladimir Putin is not anything like the old dictators of the Soviet Union. He's only 64 now, and is as fit as a fiddle. He has many years ahead of him, and the single thing that drives him on is the yearning for the return of the old Soviet empire.

A guy like Trump is putty in a master manipulator's hands. Putin could teach a master psychologist a thing or two, and be assured he will use his full powers to his benefit only, not ours nor anyone else's.

Is she the President related to the cyberwarfare on American democracy? If not, then she should be out the picture on the cyber attacks.

Is there any evidence he did? Maybe he just didn't want Hillary.
