CNN host Michael Smerconish is doubling down on the network’s decision to publicly threaten to out an anonymous Reddit user who created a WWE-themed animated image mocking the network, a variant of which was tweeted by President Trump.
Speaking on his radio show earlier this week, Smerconish said that if he “continues to be racist, if he continues to be a bigot, if he continues to be anti-Semitic” that CNN should reveal the Reddit user’s identity.
Then these idiots who out people should be prepared to be destroyed...its as simple as that. These people they are outing can be VERY vicious and they have HUGE circles of friends and allies that can dig up ANYTHING on ANYONE and put in the public view. Fair game is fair game. I guess CNN hasn't learned their lesson. This just tells me that we are winning this war against the biased media. They are running scared and are making irrational emotional decisions.
Haven't they already labeled anyone right of left a bigot? That'd be a lot of "reining in"
LOL, that was my first thought. If you don't do as they want, you'll be reined in what ever they mean by that. Are they going to put people in gulags like N Korea?
I agree that bigotry of any form is wrong and should not be tolerated.
However, there are many ways of handling bigotry and some are more effective that others. Something many liberals are trying to do is simply to silence "hate speech." While well intentioned, this actually doesn't do much good. It for one thing, hides the problem. If we shield public space from racism, racism doesn't actually stop existing. It just exists in the shadows, where it usually propagates the idea that becasue they're being silenced, they must be right. After all, why would you need to silence something that isn't true?
You see this exact line of thinking used by bigots all the time.
What needs to happen is an honest discussion. The media's role in this is promoting that discussion. Instead of getting angry, ask bigots to justify their claims. The fact is, their claims are always unjustifiable; that's what makes them bigots. Make them tell you that, and people will see them as frauds. Silence them, and they might be able to appeal to people's ideals on free speech.
