According to the latest ranking of states by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, the most fiscally sound states in the nation are all low-tax, GOP strongholds, while the 10 least-solvent states are almost all high-tax and heavily Democratic.
Live in Kansas and this study is an absolute laugh and joke.. Here we still spend tons on government.. Its poorly run and its 80% Republican ran.. So this stupid study has no merit..
At the state level party matters more than at the federal level where both parties will agree to pork budgets if it allows both sides to spend money on EVERYTHING.
With that said I find the most enjoyable states to live in are swing states that go back and forth, like Wisconsin. Democrats have done a lot of good for WI but would destroy the state if they had total control. Same with Republicans. Walker got Foxconn in there which when you consider the size and scope of the plant combined with the fact they will have a corporate headquarter in Milwaukee is just amazing. People criticize the package Walker gave Foxconn but if he hadn't done it, some other state would have. He got it done, and the amount of secondary economic growth from the businesses that will supply Foxconn will make this quite an economic boost for the state and a boon for the area between Milwaukee and Chicago and businesses in WI and IL and even further out.
I find WI and MN are good states because they have a healthy mixture of both parties. IL on the other hand.. it's nice to live around Kenosha where Foxconn is going so you can live in WI but still be close to Chicago for things to do without having to deal with IL's fiscal mess from years of democrat rule. The twin cities is better than Milwaukee, but WI is better than MN because MN leans a bit too far left for my taste. Wisconsin is about as split as you can get with a heavy republican base in some wealthy counties in the SE part of the state with a heavy democrat base around Madison and Milwaukee.
