Either way they lose. Trumpcare is going to kick millions off of care and the stories will be front page. It will sharply raise rates for sick and elderly people putting insurance out of reach, and has the potential to wash over into employer provided plans. Just like with the Dems, every rate increase, every doctor lost, every outrageous hospital bill will be blamed on Republicans whether Trumpcare has anything to do with it or not. They will pay at the polls. Bring it on!
Single payer sucks, regardless of what socialists claim. It will go from bad to worse to bloated and terrible with some bureaucratic nimrods deciding who lives and dies.
Bureaucratic nimrods already decide who lives and dies - the for profit insurance carrier and/or your self-funded employer.
I don't really see why they have to repeal and replace in this session. I know, that's what they campaigned on for 7 years, and it looks pretty poor that they don't even have a viable idea for a replacement. But if they can't pass anything this session, why not work on it some more this fall or next spring? Anything of this importance is worth taking one's time on.
Ah, the voice of reason.
Alas, Republicans don't have a viable plan now and no path to developing one.
Republicans owe their souls to their corporate benefactors who want those tax cuts. They don't give a damn about health care for Americans. Which, of course, is what this is all about.
With the republicans afraid to face their constituents because their replacement is so much worse than the ACA, it isn't that the people don't want the ACA repealed, it is that they don't want to go back to the bad old days when the sick, disabled, women, and those who didn't get health insurance through an employer were up a creek. They were told the Rs would do something better. It is up to the Rs do DO something better. They could deal with the death-grip that the pharma and insurance lobbies have on healthcare in this country - but they won't, and by not doing it, they are doomed to have something that isn't going to be any better, and is pretty likely to be far worse.
No, I do not think that is it. It took a little over a year to enact Ocare. It was and is a mess. I do not see this, thus far, as a viable solution either.
I want the unsustainable Medicaid program retooled. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing in that case. It will come to that. I want more free market for drugs - allow mail order from outside the U.S., for instance. I want more transparency in testing, hospitalization, procedures and so forth. I want a tax policy that encourages and people are incentivized to get off of their fat azzes. A major part of our health costs are lifestyle chronic diseases. I want a tax policy that enables people to pay for their care via HSA savings accounts. I want market incentives for wider pools, not subsidies. I am for pre-existing coverage, but also skinny policies, like the Cruz amendment proposes. Ala carte or prix fixe, both. This way insurance shopping can be made easy for those who do not or cannot make decisions, while offering those who can and will get the best policy for their individual circumstance.

Completely repeal Obamacare and all that is associated with it (taxes etc.)
Allow sales of insurance plans across State lines by multiple providers (competition)
Let people choose the plan/cost that fits their situation.
Pre-existing conditions should not be a burden on those without such conditions. Coverage for something that already exits isn't "insurance." Can the dead buy Life Insurance?
What never fails to get me, this doesn't just affect Democrats. It affects Republicans too, but I guess most of them don't seem to get it, thy are too busy counting about their money.
