If they don't repeal and replace Obamacare, is it the death knell of this administration? How do GOP elected officials face their constituents? How does the GOP re-group for tax reform, for infrastructure? Isn't their credibility shot?
Yes ,.Now Congress can go about and make the changes to Obamacare to make it better. It works, and yes there are parts that need fixing,no one ever said it didn't but to throw it out altogether ,no.

It's truly unfortunate that Politician's trashed it for like 8 years.. and refused to fix certain things... YET now are unable to not only replace it with workable principles and those duped by rhetoric only NOW realize that their actual care was INDEED ACA driven!! What else can citizen say except that it was GOP who blocked and refused to Fix anything.. and desire causing failure!!
If I was a GOP/Republican and benefited ( yet told ACA didn't benefit them) and NOW Lightbulb moment exposes the LIE they got sold for over 6+ years!!! IF I was a GOP voter I'd be pi$$ed!! and the Bills put forward also directly affects Medicaid eligible participants (including working poor) who are Republicans not just those horrible LIBS!! Just maybe another lightbulb gets lite.. and realize.. Congress is ALL about Lobbyists/making donor $$ and don't give a fig about anyone who gets benefits by Fed. Programs!!
While many love to suggest Ignorance is BliSS .. Just maybe this time around those kept ignorance may come forward knowing NOW what was hidden by their elected chosen ones!! We will see how 2018 goes.. BUT not so sure just how many are educated??
Republicans just don't like the box they are in. It is time to put up or shut up. Seven plus years of promising repeal & replace and they never had a plan ready to go. ACA was debated for months by the constituencies but Trumpcare is the complete opposite.

Reason: word
The pubs said they could fix our horrible legislation for years and then failed?
Do they think people will want them to take another crack at destroying the healthcare system once and for all?
Single payer sucks, regardless of what socialists claim. It will go from bad to worse to bloated and terrible with some bureaucratic nimrods deciding who lives and dies.
The Dems have a far higher hill to climb than the pubs. I believe that no matter what happens with HC they will lose1-2 seats. People are smarter than given credit, and their memories better than politicians believe. While they'll be mad at Pubs for not fixing it, they'll not forget who passed it in the first place. The dems are the ones who made it almost impossible to repeal and replace without a super majority.
No, I do not think that is it. It took a little over a year to enact Ocare. It was and is a mess. I do not see this, thus far, as a viable solution either.
I want the unsustainable Medicaid program retooled. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing in that case. It will come to that. I want more free market for drugs - allow mail order from outside the U.S., for instance. I want more transparency in testing, hospitalization, procedures and so forth. I want a tax policy that encourages and people are incentivized to get off of their fat azzes. A major part of our health costs are lifestyle chronic diseases. I want a tax policy that enables people to pay for their care via HSA savings accounts. I want market incentives for wider pools, not subsidies. I am for pre-existing coverage, but also skinny policies, like the Cruz amendment proposes. Ala carte or prix fixe, both. This way insurance shopping can be made easy for those who do not or cannot make decisions, while offering those who can and will get the best policy for their individual circumstance.
I agree. It is not viable forever, and it is a mess.
The problem is the Republicans in the House never gave any thought to the fact Obamacare would actually be popular and work well enough to function.
So they had nothing ready when they tried to repeal it. Then they put a slapdash plan together and it failed. So they passed the mess over to the Senate, and the Senate did the same idiotic things.
If it took a full year to write Obamacare, I can't understand why the GOP thought it would take any less time to undo it. Someone must have noticed the law radically changed the health care industry.

They never thought they were going to be in a position to really have to do anything. They were all set to just continue to obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. That, they excel at. Maybe pass another 60 toothless repeal bills, knowing they'd be stopped at the president's desk.
Trump winning was the worst thing that could have happened to the GOP with regards to healthcare. They had been lying for six years about how much better they could do because they never expected to have to put up or shut up.
They had nothing then and they've got nothing now. And they own this issue now that they've made such a huge deal over it for the last six months. They are well and truly screwed.
The problem is, so are we all with this bunch of clowns in charge.
Well as far as I can see it, the only viable solution is to move towards a public option (ie: removing Medicare's age eligibility).
This is so simple and it's a perfect solution that will work. The GOP won't do it because Medicare isn't a private plan.
For starters, a solution would allow people age 50 and over the option to choose Medicare or to choose a private plan. This would give older people additional options because private plan premiums are increasing drastically under TrumpCare. Allowing older people to choose Medicare would likely be a cost savings in monthly premiums for those 50 and over. If they want to stay with a private plan, they can do that too.
It's so easy and yet the Republican legislature won't discuss this. Yet they are perfectly happy with TrumpCare raising rates for people 50 and over. There are a lot of people that aren't subsidized and TrumpCare is going to take a lot more of their hard earned money due to a dramatic increase in the monthly premium. If only they would allow Medicare as an option for those people.

The Senate is near hopeless for the Democrats in 2018. It would be near miraculous for them if they only lost 1. I see best for them is likely -2 or -3.
.
Bingo.
Dems had a great map in '16, and underachieved, as the map should have made plus 6 a breeze except their brand all across Middle America, is toxic.
Now GOP has a stellar 2018 map to play.
