I really don't think it is a GOP issue alone either. Something like 80% of all Americans, regardless of party affiliation, support NN. This is really a move by the elites over us plebs. Information and control over the distribution channels is the new oil. The elite are trying to force us into a modern Gilded Age, where instead of banking, oil, and steel our overlords now have control over the internet and the flow of information. This is absolutely infuriating, and expect bills to go up by thousands of dollars over your lifetime. The GOP is literally handing the Dems a golden platter and they could campaign this issue alone, which doesn't even make sense since the vast majority of GOP voters also support NN (despite what a few hacks on CD shout).

Netflix comes along and demands one third of your floor space with no compensation to you. Remember, there is ongoing cost to maintaining a wired plant which is why google, Verizon att and many municipal plants have failed. Even if the government backs the cost of laying the wire, it's still costly.
Once 5G rolls out though the model with change. its why Verizon offered north of 100 billion for Charter

Netflix pays for West it uses. You might not be aware of that.

I agree with all of that.

Got a laugh out of this:

Here's the deal, no competition in broadband in most areas. You either need net neutrality and a dumb pipe or force reselling similar to pots. **** these companies that think they should be able to shape traffic and control what you do with your bandwidth especially since most of them are virtually monopolies.

Free market my ass.

The ISPs have been passing legislation for years to make competition exorbitantly expensive or flat-out illegal, and now they're going to start charging content providers for the privilege of reaching you. But it's OK because it's going to be a "free" market now!

Should the FCC get rid of phone regulations too, i.e. filter your phone calls and charge you/them for access or preferred audio quality?

Or, they could charge the caller based on the priority/person you're calling.

"The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. "The demise of this FCC rule has been considered by some to be a contributing factor for the rising level of party polarization in the United States."

Stumps above statement says the "Fairness Doctrine.. target(ed) (the) conservative media."

How did the Fairness Doctrine target the conservative media?

It looks like an old-fashioned 1980s corporate raid: Gain control, get hold of all the cash you can squeeze out, sell every asset that can be sold, take care of your buddies and dump the empty husk when you're done.

So a few congressmen will have to move their office to K street and become lobbyists, what's it to them? They got theirs.
