Well, the regional medical center and trauma center has recently added armed security guards. I came across them just a week or so back. One of them I found particularly interesting. He was an elderly chap. Easily in his early 70s. Quite out of shape. Frail looking all in all, and with a very pronounced paunch. His gait was almost a shufe rather than a walk and he seemed to be in a bit of pain.
But what really caught my eye was his weapon. A modified 1911. Competition mods. Complete with compensator, and riding in a Safariland speed rig and with competition magazine holders. I have never seen a guard or other armed personnel use such a weapon or rig for duty purposes. I've never known any agency or facility that would allow such an outfit for duty purposes. Such equipment is not designed with such a purpose in mind. Such gear is designed strictly for speed. Not weapon retention, keeping it in place while moving quickly (I don't think this guy could have moved all that fast anyway) or any other duty type concerns.
I found it quite curious. I have a similar rig in my competition bag. I would never dream of using it for other that speed shooting events. Apparently the hospital allows their armed guards to choose the parameters of their duty outfit. This set up certainly would not be my first choice if I was walking a foot patrol. I should have taken a picture.
I wonder what armed guards for the NRA protest headquarters are allowed to use for a duty rig and what their weapon requirements are. Most police depts I have interacted with will allow a single action auto like a 1911 or Hi Power only with special certification. At least urban depts anyway. Rural agencies are less picky.

It might have been the right weapon for him if he was hoping to get a few shots off before dropping dead of a heart attack.

IDK. He did not appear very physically capable at all. And whether people understand it or not, shooting can be very physically demanding. I would not have a lot of faith in this gentleman to perform well under the stress of actual combat. The hospital put these guards on following a shooting incident where a former employee went nuts a year or so back. Hospitals are like the original "gun free zones." As far back as I can remember non LE:security weapons have been strictly forbidden in hospitals.
All I can say in this case is it seems whoever is overseeing their armed security has never managed such a group before. However their uniforms are at least appropriate for hospital security. Cargo PA ts, but a slack type in a reserved khaki with black shoes and a nice looking beige Polo type shirt with an embroidered logo. Another hospital locly that has no armed security dresses their guards in black SWAT style BDUs that look clownish.
File this one under the hypocrisy tab.
The same goes for all the Hollywood types that make a living shooting people in their movies but stand up for banning guns. They are also the ones who would remove guns from the law abiding citizen while being escorted by armed guards to the next awards ceremony.
I'm sure there were some NRA members running security at the anti NRA protest march.
It is irony.
We see the same thing when Police are called to protect a group of misguided fools who are burning our flag in protest.
Many of those Police officers were probably once in the military where they signed their lives over in order to protect that very flag and what it represents.
I know of a certain company that forced their guards to quit using semi-autos because they were too scary looking. They now have to carry revolvers.
