Honestly I don't believe her being a woman had anything to do with her resignation. I am not sure what her exact reason was for leaving. BTW that officer wont be with the force for long!
It took Cleveland around 2 1/2 years to fire Timothy Loehmann even though they had legitimate reasons even outside of the shooting of Tamir Rice to fire him and the union is still trying to get him his job back.
Maybe that is finally starting to change. It would be a good thing for all if it becomes easier and more common to get those who have no business being an officer off the streets.
Interesting.....I know I'm suppose to comment on what I start but I'm still processing this. Just thinking to myself........I think this is a good thing. I'm not sure what I think about the chief being gone but the officer still with the force......I also have to wonder what role the chief being a female had to do with this.
There have been police chiefs that have costs cities many millions in settlements and they have kept their jobs.
The Minneapolis police chief, Janee Harteau, resigned on Friday at the mayor’s request, less than a week after one of the city’s officers fatally shot an unarmed Australian woman who had called 911 for help.
I don't think it's anything more than the chief protecting her pension and benefits for her 30 years on the force. She knows this is going to blow up in her face and could result in charges and dismissal for weaknesses in her management of the police. Probably was close to retiring anyway.
Without knowing the details of her history I don't see how you can say this is good or bad. If this was the straw that broke the camels back then fine. On the other hand if she has had an exemplary career and it's just a head hunting expedition that is bad.
You have Betsy Hodges who is only looking out for her own skin and threw the Chief to the wolves. Hodges will be the next one forced to resign or at least won't seek re election. The only way they'll appease an outraged city will be to nail Noor's hide to the wall and they'll have considerable party fallout if they do that. So they can't win either way.
Just saying why they did it, they are hoping it will stop the marches and protests. An this thread started about marches.
Agree; however, I don't think it worked. When the mayor had her press conference to discuss the resignation the protesters completely interrupted and disrupted it...the mayor had to be escorted out.
The police chief was the first female, openly gay Native-American chief in Minneapolis. I wonder if she got hired for her impeccable qualifications?
