"They say" lots of things. But taking a reasonably successful nation, and turning it into a crude farce and a grotesque parody of itself, is probably not a laudable accomplishment. Which reminds me a bit of modern times....

This is probably true. But in such a predicament, isn't it better to choose the more conventional, predictable, anodyne candidate? If we're going to be saddled with somebody incompetent and untrustworthy, would it not be better to choose the one with fewer ideas, fewer claims, fewer yearnings to disrupt and transform?

The problem is that these "leaders" we have been getting are starting off with half the country or more disliking or even hating them. Race bating and vilifying the police, equating all Mexicans as illegal aliens, calling people "deplorables", and mass attacking people for little reason, even people in your own party is NOT a way to successfully govern if you get elected.

With a choice of two candidates that were disliked by so many people, this country was going to be in trouble whether we elected Trump or Clinton.
I agree with you completely. The entire premise of "servants of the people" has been thrown out the window. They (politicians) only pretend to care about the people they represent when it's time to be re-elected. The rest of the time they only care about servicing their special interests and filling the piggy bank.

If we are to be honest, the Dems lied completely when they pushed through ACA and they were caught saying they were lying and that voters are basically stupid. On the other side, the Pubs promised they had a repeal and replace for 7 years, but as soon as they have the White House, they had nothing! More lies, while they try and please the insurance industry rather than follow through for the people who elected them.

Bolded: there was a far better third choice, which I voted for. 5M votes this time, 10M next.

I hope that Trump turns the ship around, but if not I would hope Paul will challenge him. He's proving to be one of the few politicians holding to his Libertarian values.
