For those that want single-payer healthcare (AKA government run healthcare), don't you realize that the more control over healthcare we've give to the government, the more it seems to end up costing to get it?

As long as Insurance and Pharma Lobbyists have control over the process, it will not get any better

HEY, Corporations wanted cheap labor to make their widgets, so much to the point where many Americans have less and less money, but state side industries want to keep their profits and bonuses coming while everyone else is making less.

People talk about life styles and eating habits but there are less healthier countries out there with cheaper healthcare.

It is always about the money

The Corporate Lobbyists ran out of other peoples money
The obvious solution is those industries need to take a paycut
They tried to get politicians to have everyone pitch in the bail them out and it has been a failure!

Now what are they going to do?

It is not a Liberal or Republican issue since lobbyists were behind it all the time

What to do what to do, duh

Throw the GD Lobbyists out of Washington DC is step Number ONE

They don't have the political structure, nor the size of our population. If we hand over full control of the healthcare system to the government we will all end up exactly like the VA. We will end up with judges deciding who lives and dies, like the baby in the UK.

With all the problems we have here, people from around the world come here for treatments, specialized surgery, and drugs. It's quite rare for US citizens to seek out another country for a treatment or surgery.

Sorry, the government has proven again and again that they can wonk up such things and will most assuredly become rife with corruption and waste.

Make insurance portable, reform tort laws, force all hospitals to publish their standard rates (like Cleveland Clinic), force Big Pharma to charge Americans the price they charge other countries and watch premiums and procedure costs plummet.

Why should we pay 50-2000% more for the very drugs created here? Americans are gouged beyond reason, and THAT our HC system is so screwed up for one reason; Greed!

Because most developed countries are getting older and sicker?

It will be the obese baby boomers that bankrupt the US.

LOLOLOLOL.....

Why do you righties compare government run healthcare with that of our armed forces healthcare? Who would have thought that taking care of veterans..... would be so expensive...... ?

It's like you are intentionally being dishonest to prove a point.......

Now if you said that baby boomers are incredibly obese and will be come a drain on the country's resources then you'd be on to something.

You are one of the saner people on this forum.

Another aspect that adds to cost is Doc's who tell the older Medicare patients, "now come back in 2 weeks and let me check that" (whatever it was...that healed nicely and doesn't need Medicare paying a Doc to say, "oh that healed fine'. Yea, no kidding!) I've heard many older people say they realized their Doc was too aggressive in wanting revisits. Now multiply that by millions of unneeded visits each year and you're talking about a huge pile of money.

It happens in other scenarios too. I've turned down tests and prescriptions that, after asking detailed questions, I knew I didn't need.

Single payer means medicare for everyone. Everyone pays the same. If you want to buy a supplement plan then that's up to the individual.

Care to show your evidence for this claim? As in - data showing particular states or countries that don't regulate/control health care/insurance and the result is lower costs for citizens?

Actually I find it interesting that Senator John McCain is being treated at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix .... he apparently decided against the VA hospital.
