So when do the stem majors get to skip English literature, English composition, fine arts elective, history, political science, and the foreign language classes?

The chancellor of the California Community Colleges system says intermediate algebra should no longer be required to earn an associate degree — unless students are in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math.

“College-level algebra is probably the greatest barrier for students — particularly first-generation students, students of color — obtaining a credential,” he said. “If we know we're disadvantaging large swaths of students who we need in the workforce, we have to question why. And is algebra really the only means we have to determine whether a student is going to be successful in their life?

Leftists are gonna close the income/education gap by making it wider. Reminds me of how they plan to end discrimination by using discrimination.

Agreed. The soft racism of low expectations does nothing to help people. Get them a tutor.

For example, there can be vocational schools.
People that cannot pass algebra would most likely be better off in a vocational school.

Community colleges are kind of a vocational school in many cases. Thus my lack of a hard stance on this issue.

Somebody getting an associates to be an HR manager or CNA isn't going to crash the world because algebra freaked them out.

What an insult to students of color. As if none of them are smart enough. Judging intelligence based on color of skin. Nothing like telling a student of color that they just aren't smart enough.

An institution's funding depends on student graduation rates, so instead of designing a program to coach them along, they lower the standard.

A lot of our schools in the country do this, from grade school up, but they don't do it based on color.
