I can't tell you how many times I heard this exact sentiment when I lived in Oklahoma. School was a waste of time, and so forth.

I agree with you. Having a college degree is not viewed as an asset by the majority of those I met in Oklahoma.

In fact, it seems to be a badge of honor not to have one.

Don't mean to be insulting to the folks in Oklahoma, but facts is facts.

What do you know? Anything?

I wasn't merely stating a hypothetical, I was explaining that for each acre of land, Oklahoma is more-profitable than Texas. Which means, agriculturally-speaking, Oklahoma has better land than Texas, as well as New York.

The vast-majority of jobs in Oklahoma do not require you to step foot in college. A very large fraction of people who get college degrees here, end up working in fields that don't even require a degree. My friend often jokes that his degree was the most-expensive and worthless piece of paper he ever bought.

He never used it, nor will he ever need to use it(at least if he stays here in Oklahoma).

This isn't limited to Oklahoma. This is an ongoing complaint across the country, especially in regards to liberal-arts degrees. Because there are so few jobs in those fields.

So yes, people often believe that college is a waste of time. Depending on the person, and depending on the location. But that is for practical reasons, not because Oklahomans believe ignorance is a virtue.

Basically, "Why bother wasting your time and money getting a degree, when you can make just as much money without one, not waste four years, and not end up in debt?"

Why is it ok for a 71 year old leader of the US to behave like this? When did the high school bully mentality become the moral, appropriate way to conduct oneself?
Do you really have to ask if it's appropriate?

You've not only never seen this petty, mean, bullying in any president ever - it's the kind of behaviour that would get a CEO kicked out of any publicly held company.

An antebellum plantation owner could make the same statement. The slaves in his fields were there for the "common welfare." The livelihood of the entire plantation and system depended upon the labors of the slaves. In return, the slaves were housed, fed... and had to work their asses off for the "common good." If that is your idea of "common welfare," I'll pass.

I'm sure the high courts of nazi Germany or the USSR would have found it "constitutional" as well. Means nothing. It's either just or unjust. It's unjust. And the sooner it is thrown in the gutter and trampled upon, the better off we will all be--except the insurance companies and government ruling classes, of course. They'll have to tighten their belts and pay greens fees five times a week rather than six.

Even the Boy Scouts of America had to offer an apology to the parents because of Trump's horrible, nasty, insulting speech to them. Name calling, insulting a previous president, not setting a good example for boys. The man doesn't have the boundaries that normal people have.

OK, I get it.

You listen to nutball RW radio and think it's "news" instead of slick partisan propaganda.

It's your silly notion of "common welfare."
