Indeed, and most everyone thought he was an ass for it.
Even Trump seems unwilling to address the fact that he did it. He knows it's untrue. Trump, as was the case with his campaign and indeed much of is career, just wanted attention. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, probably, and those who did, no one with basic intelligence took seriously.
Trump behaves in a way most parents would tell their kids not to act, in ways they would kicked out of school, kicked out of the military. He's a dishonorable disgrace.
And the fact that Trump claims to be the most presidential-acting POTUS since Abraham Lincoln reflects that he is divorced from reality and not of sound mind.
Trump is a manchild. He needs to be smacked into behaving like an adult.
Quite frankly, if Jeff Sessions walked into the Oval Office and punched Trump right in the face I just might forgive him for being a racist ignoramus. Trump has no class or manners. He's a repulsive cretin.
You can bully people without putting your hands on them. You can verbally attack a person, threaten them and intimidate them.
Or you can be Alt Left Antifa and smash storefronts, beat up conservatives and burn cars. Guess to you that's the same thing. Tell that to the doctors when you go to the emergency room
