Yup its just the sale of new cars that will be banned.

This is hardly a big deal, by 2030 you will much lower rates of automobile ownership, by 2040 petrol cars will be so much more costly to buy and run few will choose them.

Having said that there will likely be a bunch of exceptions to fill special roles and outlier situations. I am sure the law will have provisions just like most laws do ..

and don't forget self driving cars are going to change the narrative anyway.
Thank you for pointing out the small but very important detail that it only applies to the sale of new cars. Money is going to be spent on improving public transport so I guess the hope is that people will be using cars less and yeah, probably they're going to get too expensive anyway.

You miss my point -- I never commented on whether or not they would do it. I think it is funny there are so many experts on what should and might happen in Britain without any regard for the huge differences in culture.

British auto manufacturers have invested billions into building new EV factories.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says that the ban will be postponed as the British don't have money to buy EVs.

That's the thing about arbitrary deadlines...they can be arbitrarily moved or lifted.

They're good for pandering purposes though.

"EV Battery Factory Will Require So Much Energy It Needs A Coal Plant To Power It"

"The Kansas City Star reports that the factory will require between 200 and 250 megawatts of electricity to operate. That’s roughly the amount of power needed for a small city."

"A 15-pound lithium-ion battery holds about the same amount of energy as a pound of oil. To make that battery requires 7,000 pounds of rock and dirt to get the minerals that go into that battery. The average EV battery weighs around 1,000 pounds."

if we had a president with a brain instead of a vegetable with a strategy to destroy the country, we'd do the same.
