And the speaker of the House is elected. First he's elected to Congress. Second he holds the Speaker seat by election of the entire House of Representatives which represents all the states.
ETA: By incapacitated, I mean that both the POTUS and VPOTUS would have to be considered considered permanently incapacitated.
While I don't like either Trump *or* Pence, I'd be a lot worried about a situation that left both of them permanently incapacitated......because to me, that would suggest something went very, very, wrong somehow.

That is a good point. I would rather have an executive branch directly elected, but the point is valid.

Agreed. But we live in a day and age in which just about anything is possible (re: 9/11). I would rather be prepared than have an Al Haig situation arise.
<>However, there is no clear understanding as to what would happen if the President AND the Vice President were both incapacitated.
This scenario was the basis for "Designated Survivor"<>
Thoughts?

Pretty sure your scenario is unlikely since a lot of effort is put towards keeping President and Vice President apart.
If the Prez and VP are out then the line goes to the Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Ryan is elected but not for the White House.
Would you rather have Hillary tossed in the WH if both Trump and Pence were out?
I kind of have a feeling that is what you are getting at. She did run for office and even won the popular vote so she should be a perfect fit to fill Trumps shoes...
but then again don't give her any ideas because people that are in the way of the Clintons seem to have a habit of meeting their mysterious ends....
Why are you mentioning again Hillary (and Bill) Clinton? She was not elected to become President. So should there be a realistic situation that President Trump can't continue to serve, there are legal provisions/procedures in place for his replacement and the replacement's replacement, etc.

There is no requirement for the Speaker of the House to be an elected member of the House of Representatives. So, in the unlikely case that both Trump and Pence were gone, Hillary Clinton could be elected Speaker by a majority of the members of the House and take on the job of president, being elected by the representatives of the people.
I just toss that out there to fry the brains of the Hillary Haters.
looks like the libs are once again showing they can't accept the results of the election
