Because 9/10 people can't afford to pay for care out of pocket. When the vast majority of people can't afford a good that is considered necessary (not talking a Ferrari or mansion here), your good is overpriced. So all those rich doctors and insurance company execs are making their fortunes by basically syphoning the money from the working people
It's not that complicated....The sticking point for the USA is the desire to keep the private insurance companies with their massive overhead involved...
Canada's publicly funded health care system is dynamic--reforms have been made over the past four decades and will continue in response to changes within medicine and throughout society. The basics, however, remain the same--universal coverage for medically necessary health care services provided on the basis of need, rather than the ability to pay.
The five Canada Health Act principles provide for:
Public Administration: The provincial and territorial plans must be administered and operated on a non profit basis by a public authority accountable to the provincial or territorial government.
Comprehensiveness: The provincial and territorial plans must insure all medically necessary services provided by hospitals, medical practitioners and dentists working within a hospital setting.
Universality: The provincial and territorial plans must entitle all insured persons to health insurance coverage on uniform terms and conditions.
Accessibility: The provincial and territorial plans must provide all insured persons reasonable access to medically necessary hospital and physician services without financial or other barriers.
Portability: The provincial and territorial plans must cover all insured persons when they move to another province or territory within Canada and when they travel abroad. The provinces and territories have some limits on coverage for services provided outside Canada, and may require prior approval for non-emergency services delivered outside their jurisdiction.
No clue why anyone would think ALL Democrats want Single Payer.
Seems many confuse Single Payer with Universal Healthcare.
Most countries do not employ a Single Payer model. A few rely entirely on Private ( insurance) payer.
Most are a mixed bag and the contents of the bag vary country to country.

insurance is not care...yet the fascist liberals only talk about people not having insurance
you want to make things affordable again...get rid of insurance and the government
every time we '''expect''' someone elese to pay the bill...be it private insurance or the government.... prices skyrocket...look at tuition at colleges and universities
For example, a paper from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York https://www.newyorkfed.org/medialibr...orts/sr733.pdf suggests that colleges were raising their sticker prices because the federal government was giving students more loans.

It partly is. With our doctors making anywhere from $150k to $1,000,000/year (depending on specialty or if they are in private practice or work for a hospital), that money has to come from somewhere. So they are going to charge prices that people who make less than about $80k/year can't afford to pay. Only the top 20% of workers in this country make $80k/year or more
Wrong. You ever try to extract a copay from a rich person? The woman was complaining about paying ten dollars after they did a stool guaic. I asked her how much she would charge to stick her finger up somebody's ass.

Andrew wilkow show has had canadians calling for the past 2 weeks about months of wait just to get a mri.
And as a Canadian I can give countless examples of people who received their MRI the same day, or the next day. Ditto with cancer treatments, Cat Scans, surgery etc.
