Trump has succeeded.

He has succeeded in turning the conversation completely away from the reasons for the protests to the protests themselves.

There's a segment of the population that cannot be reasoned with.
These people will endlessly talk about an NFL rule that does not exist.
They will claim that polls taken in 2016 show that people agree with Trump's statement from just days ago.
They will howl that people came to see the game - while not recognizing that standing for the anthem is no more a part of the game than kneeling is.
They will say that this is not a free speech issue, that it's between employer and employee while ignoring that the NFL has allowed Kaepernick's protest.
They will talk about "snowflakes" and "SJW"s while being offended about someone's posture while standing in front of the flag. They will demand that because they are offended that the action must be offensive even in the face of explicit statements that the protests
They will say these protests disrespect people who fought for the flag and insult 97 year old veteran because he doesn't agree with them

They will do whatever they can to distract from the issue at hand - which was clearly stated by Collin Kaepernick

This group of people cannot be reasoned with and they will overwhelm any attempt at rational discussion with their absurdity.

Thinking people, who believe that reason can overcome absurdity, will try to reason with them to no avail because reason only works on rational people.

There are, of course, people who are against the protests who do not fit into the above.
There are, of course, people who support the protests who are just as absurd.

Trump has pitted idiot against idiot and absurdity against reason.
Trump has been very successful at politicizing pretty much any issue. He thrives on this division.

Let's talk about the NFL for a minute: Just how much power do they have?

In 2004: "Last week, Palms Hotel (Las Vegas) officials received a threatening letter from the NFL instructing them to halt their planned airing of the Super Bowl on a supersized screen in one of the resort's movie theaters. The broadcast of the game on a screen larger than 55 inches could constitute an actionable violation of the league's copyright."

Vegas can no longer call it "The Superbowl" on their marquees. A big money maker for the casinos, they are now forced to put "The BIG GAME" instead of the "Superbowl," in their advertising. The NFL does not want to be associated with gambling.

I sure remember this: "Out of an abundance of caution, and perhaps knowing how obsessed the NFL is with using Las Vegas as a whipping boy, the Palms canceled its popular theater screening and scrambled to rent 125 plasma televisions in time for kickoff."

Default Where did the disrespect for our Anthem begin?

Maybe here?

Communist band opens for Obama

A hip rock band that features the Soviet national anthem and communist-inspired lyrics was on stage to open for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at his record-breaking Portland, Ore., rally that attracted 75,000.

The Decemberists, a Portland-based group with a large local following, also closed the May 18 event.

The Decemberists typically begin their concerts with a Russian-language recording of the USSR's national anthem.

A YouTube video shows the Decemberists beginning an April 31, 2007, concert at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with the anthem.

"Decemberists" refers to an uprising at Senate Square in St. Petersburg Dec. 14, 1825, when a group of Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in protest as Nicholas I assumed the throne, after Czar Alexander died without an heir.

What's really shameful is stupid Colin says his initial protest was about race and how blacks aren't given the same opportunities, blah blah blah. What the hell! Hearing him talk about his original protest is like listening to The Ultimate Stupid!

Honestly, what are these cretins kneeling for ? Does anybody really know? A bunch of ultra-rich thugs protesting not having rights? Damn! Just when you thought you'd heard it all...

You think they're protesting for specifically themselves? That is an odd interpretation...

It might interest you to know that Colin Kaepenick, yeah that same guy, was fined $5,000 by the NFL for "allegedly" calling Lamarr Houston of the Bears the n-word during a game in 2014.

Although them Kaepernick was judged not to have said it.

But yeah, the NFL is all about free speech.

Same guy, Colin Kaepernick, wore socks depicting cops as pigs to practice.

The NFL had no problem with that.

But Robert Griffin of the Redskins was made to turn his Jesus t-shirt inside out in 2014 during a press conference because players could only wear Nike gear.

I didn't know Nike made pig socks.

I'm not sure what this has to do with my post. I'm not talking about the NFL or their policies - I'm talking about the idea that saying an "anti-American" thing is itself anti-American. No - one of the greatest things about this country (and one of its defining characteristics) is the ability to say a great deal of things, even "anti-American" things.

Their message, whatever that may be, is lost in the delivery in that many of us shut down completely when the message is delivered with hate in this fashion. If they want me to hear their grievances, act like an adult and be respectful of the flag and anthem. Then I'll start listening again.
The bold is one of the biggest snowflakes sentences I've ever read. How is kneeling making you shut down? And how does kneeling equate to delivering a message with hate?

You are claiming this is about freedom of speech.

I am showing you where the NFL has been inconsistent with that concept.
