If you crunch the numbers, that amounts to 3% of respondents. Knowing what we know about these sorts of calls (that elderly people are most likely to participate), i'm not surprised that a handful of old bigots would stop watching football because of Kaepernick.
So charge bigotry to any political opposition. socialist dems strategy...substitute racism, sexism, xenophobia, bigotry when you run out of argument.

I won't watch any game where the players refuse to stand.

It is known as audience reaction to entertainment presented. Since when is audience reation a social crime?

It is incumbent on the actors to play to the audience, not the other way around.

Don't care. League allowed dog-beaters and wife-beaters. But now people want them to expel individuals who decide to kneel during the anthem?

Outrage nation

Yes they are. On the Thursday night game they showed the KC Chiefs not standing, and others raising their fists. The commentators specifically talked about it.

It's not bigots. It is people that want to be entertained, not dabble in politics, and negativism towards our country during relaxation time. Get it?

National anthem protests No. 1 reason viewers tuned out NFL games

I'm a Jets fan, that's my excuse. I could care less about Colin Kaepernick.

Will note on the above comments, that there actually is a call for blacks in this country to boycott the NFL that started last season due to the unfair treatment that many felt Kap and other players received.

This may be the reason for the drop in ratings. I think its interesting that the link didn't mention this. I know a lot of people who said they wouldn't watch the NFL over it. My spouse and his friends on our block all say they will not watch either and haven't since the season started.

Will also note that I don't particularly like watching football anyway so don't really care and think it is ridiculous that whites got mad about the players taking a knee. IMO it is not disrespectful and as long as they are not violating any NFL policy, it shouldn't be an issue. I'll also note I think its silly and don't feel that the national anthem has anything to do with civil rights or social justice issues in this country, but I support their right to nonviolent protest and I hope that those who are protesting are also providing some sort of charity or community support in majority black neighborhoods, schools, and organizations.

ITA with this. All of you don't care especially about many of these men being rapists and wife/girlfriend abusers but care about some guys taking a knee during the anthem.....

IMO it shows that NFL fans care about the wrong things and probably need to not watch so many sporting events anyway.

This may be a huge part of it.

None of our 20/30 y/o relatives watch football. They might have a SuperBowl party, but that's about it.

Whereas the old farts will be planted in front of the TV now for months.

If football players don't respect the country, why wouldn't it make sense that a significant percentage of people who do (especially those who served) tune out. (especially if they weren't rabid fans to begin with)

I tuned out on baseball (for several years) when they went on strike in the 90s. Tuned out on pro football in the 80s when the Oilers left Houston.

What kind of odd duck would equate racism with whether or not someone is tired of watching a game that offers an inferior product (than it used to) & tries to inject politics into entertainment?

Stopped watching the Academy Awards 12-15 years ago to (when Shakespere in Love won over Private Ryan). Sometimes a consumer just needs a little push to move them to another product.
Totally agree. My wife and I watched the Olympics last year for the last time. The broadcast has deteriorated into a series of endless commercials with only a few clips of the same sports thrown in and too many repetitious personal anecdotes. We got tired of watching swimming and gymnastics only when there were so many other interesting sports going on. The Olympics broadcast has gone downhill with each succeeding broadcast, and with NBC owning the rights to its showing, there are no other networks on which to see it. And so it is with football. There are so many commercials she wouldn't watch at all without her DVD ad skipper. Now she only watches the Cowboys and Texans games. The Oilers were far better than the Texans (she speculates it's because of the Texans' atrocious coach).

This may be a large part of it also. The younger people I know watch the highlights on their phone through Red Zone or other apps if they are even into football. Many of them do not have the patience to sit through an entire three hour + game. It does get tedious at times.

Bingo. Heck go to CNN's website and they have a news of the day (no politics) section. People are burned out on the 24-7 of Trumps latest twitter feud or Melania's shoes or Hillary blaming Bernie Sanders....etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, Olympics coverage is dismal. I watched maybe 60 minutes of the Olympics last time around.

Heck, a couple months back I shut off all but my basic cable and now just have Netflix and Amazon Prime. The only thing different is the >$100/month I save off cable.

Tried to load CBS to watch a football game the other day as they offered free streaming on Prime but the fine print was only for a certain time. Got to the end and they wanted $6/month to have access to their shows. I LOL'd when I saw that...I wouldn't give them 1 cent a month.
