Trump would be better off to go out to the Rose Garden, pick up a cobble rock, and beat himself over the head with it.
He needs Congress more desperately than any other President in the 21st century right now. He has not accomplished a single thing in his agenda over 200 days into his presidency. A new record.Trump has to have something, anything, pass through Congress very soon to avoid total disaster.
But Congress doesn't need him any more. He utterly failed to use his position to help his party push through the single most important issue he, or they, have had in 8 years, and left his Senate leader tied to the whipping post while he futzed around.
Worse, after his party leaders were cut down, he stomped them all in the head after their crushing defeat. Congress never owned him much when he was elected. Now, they owe him nothing, and he has lost all their trust to boot. All he's proven himself to be good for is betrayal.
If he tries to take away any of their perks, Congress will be forced to drive the bus at last. And they will drive the bus right over him as soon as they take the wheel.
I agree.
Trump, and his blind followers, don't understand that the House has the power of the purse and that laws are enacted by Congress, not the orange buffoon in the WH.
Sure, he can impound appropriated funds, but he'll be shooting himself in the foot.
Gosh, everyday that goes by, Trump is acting more and more like Richard Nixon.
Last i looked, house members and their staffs, the Senate yada yada, pay 500 a year for their own doctor.
The House physician has other duties.
The congress gets medical test, etc in the building. The can also be admitted to any military hospital. Guess that's why the POTUS goes to Walter Reed.
Good summary, and the only thing that one might add is that it was a Republican addendum to the ACA that forced Congress and their aides off the FEHB.
Of course the very best part of Christine's summary is the part about who employs the CongressCritters, their Staff - even Christine. It's NOT the Federal Government that pays for this Gold Plated Benefits, it real American TaxpPers that provide the Money & the Benefits. The same Taxpayers that struggle and can't pay for their own Familiy Health Insurance.
You both miss the entire point (as do most who suck from the Taxpayer) - IF it's good enough for us, it's sure good enough for THEM. The American Taxpayers are not Serfs to serve the .Royal Court of the Government Employee.
What part of "You work for us" do you people not understand?
